My brother, who's 23, has a huge problem with drugs and alcohol. He barely passed high school 6 years ago because he was too busy skipping it to get stoned during school hours. He started smoking cigarettes and marijuana at about 17 and hasn't stopped since. He started drinking when he was about 18. I'm pretty sure he's bipolar because if he's extremely crazy and violent the night before, he acts very ashamed the next day and barely talks to us. He never had a job, never went to college, and doesn't do anything except get drunk/stoned everyday. He begs my mom for $15 each day, and if he doesn't get it he destroys something. He also stole over $10,000 from my whole family over the past 6 years to fund his addiction. My whole family has to keep their money on them at all times, because he will steal it if you don't keep an eye on it. I feel like I have no relationship with him at all, and I wish he was gone forever. He's a compulsive liar, and lies about everything. Even if he had smoke coming of out of his nose, he would lie and say he wasn't smoking. He is extremely violent when he's drunk, but not to the point of physical violence, he never hit us, but has came very close to it. He also refuses to see a psychiatrist or any doctor because he thinks he doesn't have a problem. My mom doesn't want to call the police when he's like this because she would be very embarrassed. My dad doesn't do anything about it and says "it will fix itself," But it won't, he has been like this for the past 6 years and I have no idea what to do.
Thanks for reading.

You can't say for certain that you brother is bipolar. Only a doctor can reach that decision. Of course, I shouldn't say that because I am a freak. A schizophrenic mess. Your brother is lucky he isn't schiz. Everyone who is fails in life. Like me. That's why I am thinking of the dreaded S word...

Maybe your mom should call the police. He may be able to get the help he needs if has been detained. Just a thought,,good luck, Jen
