At least 3 or 4 doctors have tried to get me on lamictal over the years but I am TERRIFIED of trying any new drug. Today my GP prescribed me 5mg chewable lamictal to help me ease into it...she even said I could break it in half(!) Even if it takes me many months get to an appropriate dose, I finally feel hopeful that I will actually try it this time.

I thought the minimum dosage of lamictal was 25mg. Did not know there was a chewable version either. I learn something new everyday.

I wasn't aware of this either. My starting dose on Lamictal was 25 mg, followed by 50, 100, 150, etc. up until 400 mg.

5 is a pretty low dose
I thought that 25 was the lowest too

What has you so scared ? The very very slim chance of SJS?

SJS can be caused by loads of others meds.

I too am really surprised at the dose and chewable??? Do they taste good at least ?

I'm on 50 mg dissolving. I chew them. At first they taste like mint and then it tastes bad.

I didn't know they made 5mg tabs until today either...I think they're usually for kids. The standard starting dose for adults is 25, my doctor is just doing this for me to alleviate some of my anxiety.

Christina - yes, SJS. I know it's rare, but it sounds like such a nightmare. I'm also afraid of the more common side effects - nausea and dizziness in particular, as these would obviously be huge triggers for my emetophobia

You're right that SJS is rare. Might as well take your chances. If that number of doctors have recommended it, there's a better chance it will help than hurt.

If a person stops taking it at the first sign of a rash or say brushing teeth and gums left off a bit of blood , I'm not saying gushing.

The only treatment is just IV fluids to help someone stay hydrated if they really were losing fluids.

If someone doesn't report symptoms right away well then I think a person would be rather uninformed.

I was started on triliptal few years ago , I hit Day 5 and my gums were touchy and I lost my voice so of course I stopped the med and left message for Pdoc , was not a big deal .

I hope the low dose helps you ease onto a higher, therapeutic one. My body didn't like lamictal much, sadly, but it seems like lots of people swear by it.

Lamictal seems to be a pretty good drug I think you will be fine.
Good luck with it.
