I'm sorry if I posted this before. My memory is crap these days. Well anyway, I wanted to stop geodon so pdoc put me on 60mg twice a day instead of 80. Well if I miss a dose or am a few hours late, I go into full on withdrawals. Now I'm afraid to go off it. I've been through alcohol and opiate WD before and I just can't do it again. If I would of known this would happen, I would have refused it.

So I'm wondering if anyone else ever experienced this with geodon and how bad were the WD? Now I'm scared to quit taking it because I want to avoid this.

I was taking 160mg and stopped cold turkey. I didn't have any WD symptoms.

ETA: I may be unusual - I stopped alcohol cold turkey and had no WD either. I think I'm blessed with not being sensitive to WD so I apologize if my response is unhelpful.

I take 240 mg at bed-time each night and am still on it. Thank you for posting this thread. I'd like to know if there are WD to stopping it. I'm sorry you're having such a tough time coming off it. I hope you feel better soon.

If you don't mind... did you replace it with an anti-manic AP. I'm scared I'll quit and have an episode. Plus the WD. Hell I mine as well stay on itAnyone ever stop geodon?

I've stopped geodon several times over the years (with doctor's blessing). I pretty much stopped cold turkey (might have been a few days taper but not much more than that) with no problem.

My pdoc replaced it with Latuda (which he insisted was a better version of Geodon) but I got manic after 4 weeks on it, now I have the invega sustenna injection. I tried the invega pills but they made me vomit an hour after taking so we went with the injection. So far so good.

switching from geodon to abilify. Have not slept well for 3 nights even taking klonipin. But I have been drinking so that may be a consideration too.

I feel you on that. The nights I don't take my Geodon I get no sleep and feel pretty crappy the next day. I hope you get some good quality sleep soon. I take Abilify during the day because it's activating for me.

Thanks for this!

I was on Geodon for about 4 months. It was a very weird med for me, so I decided to stop taking it. I dropped the dosage down over about 10 days, then stopped taking it. No withdrawals.

The reason the pharm said to take it at night because he risk of dizziness and blurred vision as potential side effects.
I questioned the same thing.

I was switched from Geodon to Abilify because I was having heart problems. I had withdrawals because Abilify doesn't work for me.

Anyone ever stop geodon? geodon withdrawl?
I have not slept well since decreasing the geodon and adding abilify.
It was/is a quick transition, no real taper over 5 days. I was taking a total of 160 mg of geodon the 80 then 40 for 3 days and none. mean while taking 10mg of abilify for 3 days then 20mg for a regular dose.
This seems rather quick, I did not question my pdoc about this.
I have not slept well the past 3 nights.
am very tired right now, will go to bed shortly.
I am feeling a little nauseated and have a slight headache.
I have not googled geodon with drawl.
I wonder more about the abilify.
Some have said it is activating for them and they take it in the morning for that reason. I am taking mine at night like ordered. I called the pharmacist about that and she said there is a potential side effect of blurred vision and dizziness and sedation that is why they recommend taking it at night. Others have said it made them manic.
That is not very reassuring. I will call into my pdoc office on monday morning. the other night I took an extra 1mg of klonipin thinking that would put me to sleep.
nope.
She wants to start seroquel to sleep. My guess is that she will order that on monday.

Damn that sucks bizi. I went from 80mg to 60. I'm alright but I did have withdrawal symptoms. Not fun. But I'm regulated now and I think I'm going to stay on it with 60mg.
Thanks for this!

wow, you went from 80-60mg and had withdrawl symptoms.
I take a full 20mg of abilify tonight then one more 40mg of geodon then discontinue that. so that is roughly one week to go from 160mg to none.
bizi
I am afraid of what will happen, maybe nothing because I started on abilify?????

I slept a bit better last night 5 hours. On the full dose of 20mg.
last 40mg of geodon this noon meal, then no more. I don't think I am having any withdrawl symptoms other than not sleeping well. I am not hypomanic.

Not sure if abilify will help the discomfort but I found that gabapentin has helped with the withdrawal. I had an old script and thank god I saved it!

I don't know if the insomnia is from the geodon withdrawl or if it is from an activating abilify.
I hope I sleep tonight.
