I mentioned this in my other post but my new psychiatrist is taking me off of haldol, sertraline, and remeron and replacing those meds with latuda and ambien.

I called the doctor's office and left another message asking if she really wanted me to stop taking all those meds cold turkey, but haven't gotten a call back yet. I'm especially worried about just going off haldol abruptly. She said it causes brain cell shrinkage, which is why she doesn't prescribe it and is trying to get everyone off of it. I honestly don't care if my brain shrinks. I'm happy and enjoying life for a change. I feel stable. I haven't been this stable in years. Not to mention I have a young child to take care of.

I went as far as calling other places to try to get in to see a different psychiatrist, but one place said they can't help me because I've seen a psychiatrist in the last year, and the other place said they need a referral.

I'm seriously stressing here. I'm smoking like a damn chimney!

I don't understand why she would do this if you are doing so good. ****supposedly****all aps cause brain shrinkage
anyway.
and to go off cold turkey is crazy. and Ambien ...idk just all wierd. did you tell her how you feel at the appointment?
if not tell her now. if you are doing so well I would hate to see you flip into an episode

I don't know about the haldol, but I've properly weened off setraline and still had withdrawal symptoms. It dos not seem like good advice to stop cold turkey.

I hope your pdoc will reconsider. It makes no sense to me to quit something that is working well for you. Good luck.

Change is not always good. You did the right thing by calling. I hope the doc listens. Take care

At least you have a doctor who cares about you. I don't think they can force you off a med like that if it's working. Go to their boss. im really surprised your doctor is doing this, mine just keep telling me I will have to take these meds for life. I'm glad you have something that is working but if you are this stressed and smoking like a chimney, is it really working as effectively as you think? I'm not saying it's not, just saying I hope you find even more stability than you have currently. Brain shrinkage is so horrifying, but so are the alternatives so I can see both of your POW's on this subject. Psychosis damages the brain also. Mental illness is just a bunch of bad news toppled upon more bad news. Good luck.

this all sounds very strange to me. I can't imagine that a legal drug (Haldol) is so dangerous that it warrants stopping it immediately - especially if it's been helping you. Also, going off sertraline cold turkey is a terrible idea. It took me months to wean off a teeny tiny dose and I STILL had pretty bad withdrawal - this I know is not uncommon. It sounds like your pdoc cares more about her personal agenda than your current state of mind and well-being. If I were you I would push really hard to see someone else (get that referral!).

I stopped Haldol cold turkey I didnt have a problem, But your dropping numerous ones.

As Jacky said all AP's are * shown* to prove brain shrinkage which I believe 100%

You have had a real hard time finding stability, You need a good stretch of stability to give your mind a freaking break

Ambien is ok for short term , many people myself included built up a tolerance rather quickly and it soon stop working.

I hope you can find a resonable agreement about YOUR meds and treatment. This Pdoc works for YOU.
