So, I spiralled into a mixed state/episode (more of a manic with mixed features) about two weeks ago. I seen my pdoc and she started me on lithium and clonazepam to help "calm things down". It's kind of just getting worse and now with intermittent periods of depressive/agitation. I feel like I'm going to crawl out of my skin between the agitation and energy.
Just wondering what the treatment you received was? How do you cope with it? I'm not in therapy right now (on a waitlist) and I see my pdoc again on Monday (which seems like forever in this state). I could really use some tips. Thanks! PS: Sorry for posting so many threads lately. I'm just new to this mixed stuff. ![]() |

The key for me was sleep.....lots of rest. I was taking my regular meds then put on Haldol and Benadryl for my mixed episode. Within a few days I felt some much better. Also I drank lots of water. Soak in a warm bath and try soft music too

Sometimes if my mixed states are bad enough, I'll take a little extra Risperdal or Lithium. My pdoc said that was okay. He also told me he preferred that I reduce my Lexapro by half at the times I feel that way. Good luck! I hope you get to feeling better.

The lithium will take a little time to kick in. Are you on an antipsychotic?

Hi dear,
I remember those times, It was 12 years ago and my doctor diagnosed me as bipolar, social phobic etc. She gave me so many meds I couldn't even function as a normal teen. For an instance, be really careful with clonazepam. It might work differently on each individual, but it made me extremely depressed and even more sick, so I decided to slowly quit it and eventually all the meds. I've been living the best years of my life so far, but still need some help. One thing I know for sure is that I won't try a medication approach. I was able to handle the brain chemical unbalance with exercises. Find some fun activity that will get you hooked, your body will naturally feel better. Muay thai has changed it all for me. Its all about trying different things in order to live a better life. Try to always be on a move, don't wait until the solution will come to you, get up and find your own path. Be well! ![]() |

I'm sorry you're having such a tough time. Mixed episodes are the worst. It does make you want to crawl out of your skin. During these times, my pdoc has given me permission to take extra sleep medicine and sleep it off which usually works for me in a day or two. I'm sorry yours seems to be lasting longer. You're not alone. Please post as often as you need to. We're here to support you. I hope you can get some relief soon.
