After Lithium what?.

I went from lithium to Abilify. I'm not complaining, but I'm not happy either. Besides, after reading all the possible akathisia, I wonder if there's something else after lithium.
I'm on Lamictal and Wellbutrin also. Thank you for your replies.<3

I took lithium for a long time and my levels remained at 1.0. It never worked. I've tried many aps both typical and atypical and now I'm trying depakote which has me gaining like crazy. Let me know if you have any questions. I'm not a doctor but I don't mind sharing my experiences.

Can they raise your lamictal for it to be a mood stablizer?

Trileptal, Topamax, or Depakote? Those are mood stabilizers/ anticonvulsants. Lamictal is a good one, too.

I tried lithium long ago. I had no side effects but felt numb inside...I couldn't feel emotions good or bad. I take Wellbutrin also which is activating for me. When I don't take it I fall into a deep depression. I am on 5 mg of Abilify and have not had side effects. Maybe it shows up with higher doses. It also helped me get out of a deep depression. Good luck with your meds....

I'm taking 100mg Lamictal. I was on 200mg and still got depressed before the lithium. So I'm tapering down.

Have you thought of adding an AD?

I am usually trying to get out of depression. It's stubborn. I am taking 4 meds for depression and am still struggling most days.
You have also tried a lot of different meds.
The Abilify is not helping enough? is your pdoc planning on increasing your dose?

I've never been on Lithium, but Abilify has been a godsend for me. No side effects (I'm on 15 milligrams). When I got depressed, my Lamictal dose was raised from 200 to 400 mg which was helpful. Now I'm back to 200mg. When I got depressed some time later, I was prescribed Vraylar, but by the time I got it (it took a month), my depression had lifted so I never took it -so I can't speak to that.

You are better away from lithium. I took it for not long at all and developed hypothyroidism!
I have two friends on low doses of abilify and they have been on other meds and they seem fine but for them it acts as an ap.
I have had so much trouble with depression ever since i started meds ten years ago. I am schizoaffective. My quetiapine has mood lifting properties but i am also on mirtazapine and venlafaxine and my nurse things it is a lot to be on, she spoke like i needed a whole chemist where i thought its not too bad considering my condition.
I have never been on a mood stabiliser (i bought the lithium myself) but ive heard abilify has an energising effect. My Anti depressants are at a really high dose so much so i think they are cause of my fast pulse rate.

But it is trial and error so have patience my friend, there are a plethora of medications out there. Abilify is not as potent as Zyprexa and quetiapine, as i was tried on it while under a treatment order. My doc said it is more like an add on AP to lift mood so i think longterm use is safe enough as long as u don't get akathisia of course. I only got that when i overdosed
