Just wanted to check in and say hello. I am nearing 50, and feel I've had this mood disorder since childhood. I have had decades of therapy, but only recently, like the past 8 months with my new therapist, have I felt like I am learning new coping tools. I had all but given up on ever learning anything useful to help me cope with the mood and manic episodes I suffer from. But Core Mindfulness is helping me. I know it's part of DBT (Dialetical Behavior Therapy) but it's really helping me. Meds do too. But even so, every night, around this time, between 5-6 pm I feel like a switch goes off and I get these feelings of sadness. Anyone else like that? I can have a great day, but then 6 pm comes and I feel sad, lonely and isolated.

Pamster!!!! It is good to hear you have found a therapist that works for you. I believe one that fits is hard to find. I've only had one that ever helped me but she has moved on else where. I've never really noticed that I get depressed at a certain time of the day. Have you talked to your psych about it? Glad to meet you and I hope you find it comfortable and helpful here.

Welcome to PC. I'm glad you are feeling better but sorry for the sadness you are feeling in the PM. Tracking my moods has shown that usually I feel better mentally in the evening but some days are just bad all day and sometimes I get aggravated in the PM. i think I'm a night owl by nature though and mornings are horribly painful due to arthritis which effects my mood of course.

Welcome again.

WELCOME PAMSTER!!!

Make yourself at home. Lovely to have you join in with us!

As for the time of day I feel depressed?
I feel depressed all day long.
Mornings are the worst. They are really tough.

I love the evenings because it's time to wind down and go to sleep. It's appropriate to be in bed. 'Cause that's where I want to be 24/7 right now.

I hope to see you around the forum.

Hello...good to have you. Mornings are the best time for me because I feel hopeful and optimistic. I do get deeply depressed between 12-2 and I know why that happens. Could you keep a notepad and pen near at 5 and just write every thought that comes into your head? It might help you start nailing down the source of the pain. Best wishes.

I personally don't feel down at a certain time of day but I have heard of others who do. I'm glad you found a therapist that is so helpful.

Hi Pamster. Welcome to PC. I often experience worse feeling of depression during the evenings and weekends. During the weekdays, I am often very busy with work and do not have time to think about how I feel. Are you very busy during the day? Sending hugs your way.

Hello, Pamster!

I don't like 5:00 pm much. In fact, I hate it. I have to distract myself until its over.

Hi Pamster, and welcome to PC!

As far as time of day--early afternoon is pretty rough. I have anxiety from one of my meds and it pops up around that time.

I think it's related to having to 'hold it in' all day and then after dinner I just decompress and the depression kicks in, where I just feel so darn negative and judgemental about myself. It's rough. Thanks everyone for the kind words and warm welcome. Much appreciate it.
