Why do you do so? What do you get out of it?

My pdoc keeps encouraging me to see a psychologist, but I'm not sure why. Don't know the point. It's one of those things I won't do unless I know why I'm doing it.

Therapy is good for helping you cope with everyday stressors. That might not seem like much, but a therapist can teach you how to handle your anxiety such that you don't have to pop a klonopin every time you get major anxiety. That doesn't mean you don't need klonopin AT ALL, but it means that you can teach yourself techniques in case you don't have any klonopin on you or to limit your amount of klonopin consumption.

A therapist can also help you cope with mood episodes. For example, some people self harm as a result of depression or mixed states, and therapy help you build techniques and stuff to avoid harming yourself.

If you have severe depression, a therapist gives you someone to talk to. If you need everyday advice, a therapist gives you someone to talk to. If you have a crisis, a therapist gives you someone to talk to.

Those are just a small handful of examples.

I do because I know there are things that I need to talk about. The meds only help so much.

A talented therapist can teach you coping tools that last all of your life. The therapy I had in my 20's-30's helps me now, in my 50's.

I do and have for most of my adult life. I've had my current therapist for about 4 years. He's great, but I'm very stubborn and I also have some weird feelings toward him (I'm super attached), so sometimes we both get frustrated.

He mainly tries to teach me DBT skills for dealing with strong emotions. It helps when I let it. Being in therapy reminds me to keep trying. I think without it I'd give up on trying to get better.

My T (is my pdoc) helps by talking things over, helping me to see other viewpoints. He teaches me a lot of self-acceptance and self-compassion.
He offers a lot of support.

I was with my T for 6 years, Only reason I am not atm is because I moved from TN to FL.

He helped me wait through some really horrible terrible things and I am forever grateful.

He helped me see that I did deserve love that I was NOT a burden and we worked hard hard hard on my self esteem, I still struggle but I am so much better than I have been my entire life. Altho I did go shopping for a bathing suit last week and oh boy did my self esteem tank so so low, Stll trying to kick and claw my way back out of that hole.

Therapy is only going to be as good as you put into it.

Therapy is hard if its not then its not being done right.

I have only been seeing mines since January this year. I work on CBT stuff with my Psychologist. I get a lot out of just talking and sussing things out that I am struggling with. It has made me see where my thinking is on particular matters

I have spent the last four years in therapy. Unfortunately I had to see a few different people because of insurance etc but I don't regret it at all!

My current t is so amazing. She's helped me through some really rough spots and I'm doing way better Han ever. She's helping me hopefully go back to part time work. Sadly, I am losing her. She's leaving the office I see her at.

I've had good ones and meh ones. The CBT was very helpful. I had one that seemed to just want to chat, often about herself, it was weird.
The best one I did for a year with a mindfulness therapist. Seriously healing and taught me so much about myself, and useful tools to deal with life and myself.
It's up to you, it's important you feel comfortable with the T. So please don't get discouraged if you get one who doesn't mesh, keep looking. Therapy can be so amazing.

I've been seeing a therapist to help overcome some reactive behaviors that I have from being repeatedly abused. We've done a lot in the past six years. Lately it's been working on everyday problems, but I sense another "deep dive" will be happening soon.
