I'm currently starting lamictal, I'm on 50mg for the next 2 weeks until I can go to 100mg. I'm just curious if anyone has felt more manic or more depressed when starting a medication? I feel like I might be getting manic, also I've been really just angry for no reason.

hi. lamictal was good to me, overall. having said that, i did get a bit of an oddly stimulating effect at 50mgs. I take 100mgs. It wasn't bad for me or anything, just...something I noticed.
Lamictal is approved for Bipolar I, depressive episodes and for long term treatment to prevent their recurrence. Its supposed to have a far, far lower risk of inducing (hypo)mania than many other options, but...hey, its psych drugs; strange things happen, fairly frequently. |

Lamictal is pretty good for me, but especially in combo with other meds. I'm on 400 mg daily. On lower doses, it was stimulating for me too, but this went away as I went up on the other meds. I also think that if I were not on other meds with Lamictal, than maybe it would make me a little more hypomanicky, but overall, so many people do well on Lamictal who have Bipolar.

I've been on it for years and love it. I've increased several times when I got stuck in depressions. Each time I went up by 50mg (I'm at 300mg currently), my mood bounced up high within a couple days and stayed like that for a couple weeks to a month before settling down.

I started very slowly, while coming off Divalproex, there was about a week there where I had an increase in anxiety, which is usually a sign of hypomania for me. Im up to 200mg now in divided doses, and still get the odd panic attack but not like the first week

My husband takes Lamictal (and Klonopin), for BP II, and he has been stable for well over 10 years now. He says the Lamictal was a little activating at first.
I wish I could take it, but I can't. I hope it works well for you! ![]() ![]() WC |
