Pardons for stepping in here but regarding cyclothymia...anyone here suffering from this?...and what treatment are you receiving?

Also what else does your diagnoses consist of if you don't mind me asking. [co-morbid symptoms]

I feel alot of people have this instead of Ultra rapid cycling, Which is very rare atually.

The treatment is the same...... meds , Therapy and learning coping skills and mindfulness.

I have BP II but have always related to cyclothymia because my depressions are usually pretty short (anywhere from 1 month to 2 days). Sometimes I think I used to have cyc and "graduated" to BP II. Anyways, as others have mentioned, treatment is generally the same, though you may be able to withstand antidepressants better than someone with BP 1.

As far as co-morbid disorders, anxiety anxiety anxiety. For me at least, and I would expect the same for most people with any kind of BP.

The meds are similar throughtout the BiP spectrum I guess, except for maybe differences in dosages? I dropped my anti-d on my doc's advice and went on Abilify with an intent to try lithium soon. I'm a little leery of that however. I've heard good and bad things concerning it but I'm unsure about it all. They tried me on Seroquel and Rispiridone way back and I did NOT adapt to those well and had to stop.

I've been putting up with this rapid cycling for years and it has my life pretty messed up. The only thing I would take was Wellbutrin which didn't address that stuff at all. The doc is lucky I'm trying Abilify actually...but then I'm feeling pretty desperate these days...so much time has been lost you know? Thank you all for answering.

Sorry to hear all of that

Abilify ultimately did not work well enough for me, but a lot of people here have said it works wonders for them. I think it's worth a try, honestly. Very different from Quetiapine and Risperidone.

Unfortunately, the best we can do (right now) is try out different medications one at a time, or do genetic testing to see which medications we metabolize the best. However, genetic testing is kind of expensive. I think at least $300 in the US? But if you have the funds and you're up for it, I say go for it. It's very useful information to have.

If your main symptom is depression, then ABilify is a good start. There's also Latuda, but I don't know what your insurance is like, as it's a rather costly med.

I hope the meds work out for you. It took me a while to find one that stabilized my moods (though it also has side effects).
