I am bipolar disorder. I had an episode recently and am in the process of recovering from it. I have ADHD as a co-morbid disorder. Lately, I have been having trouble getting my ADHD medication from my psychiatrist. S/he seems hesitant to prescribe this medication to me because of the worry of it triggering mania or exacerbating my current bipolar symptoms. I experience essentially the full host of ADHD symptoms. The problem is I have much to accomplish such as passing the CPA exam, volunteering, and getting a job. I am wondering what the right way to frame to my psychiatrist that I really do need this medication - Adderall, Concerta, etc.- is. I thought about following information that I have gathered from various articles about this process, but I am starting to think twice because it seems that I have the best results when I be myself. In other words, I am wondering if anyone has had experience with the best way as to how to get your point across to your psychiatrist that you have ADHD and you need medication for it. I am hopeful that when I bring this topic up to my psychiatrist next week that I will either get a response that I need to wait for my bipolar symptoms to reach a steady state or I am given the medication. Hopefully, the response is not no...
