downward-turned descended-on-face eyes. you know the kind of heavy-lidded dopey look people have when they first wake up, as if the eye muscles can’t hold up the eye area. unfocused and sometimes strained look in eyes.
and it’s really not something you could fake. I’ve seen it in my own photos. In fact I can accurately predict when I had a depressive episode in the past based on my eye area in photos. I’ve also seen it in other people with the same condition too, the same look, and I always knew ahead of time when my friends needed to talk during those times. I’ve just always wondered about this, and wether or not a dysfunctional brain (mental illness - one and the same) can have an impact on motor function with tangibly measurable symptoms?

I know what you mean. I see it when I'm IP, both in myself in the mirror and in others. I always think people in IP have a similar look. Sometimes they all look that way and I don't because I'm the annoying manic one (I go to a mood disorder unit and usually am the only one with bipolar. When manic I know they want to vote me off the island sometimes).

I've often been told that when depressed my blue eyes have no life/light in them, that its a dead give away to my mood. And when up they are lit up the bluest blue. Windows to the soul.

My countenance changes dramatically when in an episode. It is obvious to those who know me. What you describe sounds like the effects of depression.

When my non-mental health doctors and others learn about my severe depression, they are always surprised because I don't present that way. I could be having a bad case of SI and nobody know or suspect. My anxiety is more obvious and usually shows. Best wishes.

My emotions show up pretty well on my face, and I can't stop them. My husband notices right away if I'm depressed.
