I moved from Tennessee to Florida 9 weeks ago. I had seen the same Therapist for 6 years. So that has been a tad hard at times.

I sent him a card about 4 weeks after I left, Just to try and explain how much he had helped me over the 6 years.

Thank you doesn't seem like enough . He saved my life so many times. He taught me that I do have worth and self esteem, etc

For those fighting to find a good fit with a Therapist keep looking and don't stop until you find one that you click with.

Of course his letter which I don't think he was " allowed/or crossed some boundaries had me a sobbing mess to be honest. It is now in my safe along with the letter he gave me on our last visit.

I'm so glad you found someone who helped you so much! I agree, it can be a struggle to find the right person but it's worth it. I love my therapist now. When I was extremely depressed she didn't let me feel powerless against it. She told me to fight back and I did and clawed my way out. I wouldn't have done that without her encouragement.

I have yet to find a T like my first one. I feel bad I was a brat at times. Hopefully your new T is just as helpful as old T. keep his letter for your bad days.

That is quite lovely

My first two therapists and I didn't connect *at all*, but my current one (the 3rd one) and I do. So you're right that we shouldn't give up. There are plenty of bad apples out there, but also plenty of wonderful ones.

Here's hoping that you will find another wonderful therapist if you haven't already

I wish I could find a good therapist. Most of the ones that take Medicaid suck! Imo...

This new one I have after the last 3 got fired at the place where I go, was comparing our traumas! Like who has had the most. It's ridiculous.

I'm really happy for you tho that you've been able to have that connection with a therapist. I had that with a therapist I met when I was in college.

I hope you can find somebody else just as good in the future.

Congrats on the move to Florida. I still haven't really understood how you would assess if it's a "right fit"? My husband is seeing a psych who is also his therapist, but I don't get that feeling right off the bat. I am still apprehensive and he's been going now 2x per week for almost 4 months

Also I realize that I am not the one going in there for therapy, but I just wanted to know if there's a way to guage that or maybe I'm just being too critical?

Christina you have been very helpful and always provide insight and kindness. I am sure your therapist will miss seeing you too.

My tdoc who has helped me so much is closing her practice since she took a job at the VA. I found someone else who I see July 11th. I hope she's good. I've been through many therapists until I found this last golden one. Best wishes.

Wonderful post!
Can feel the warmth you have for your therapist.
I've been lucky with therapists. All very talented.
Thanks for reminding us of the gratitude we hold for our therapists.

It's always a gamble whether the T will be a right fit. I lucked out with my last two Ts. I wish I hadn't stopped my last T, but she was a professor and was getting overwhelmed with student's practicums and such. My current T is a retired professor, so that was cool. I'm grateful for them both.

It was nice that your T gave you a letter.
