Okay, so I made a thread about this a while back, but I'm freaking out! Did wisdom teeth removal induce an episode for you?
I can't even take codeine because I'm severely allergic to it, so I'll probably need something else, but I'm soooo paranoid that I'm going to die from allergic reaction to some other Rx pain med. I mean, stuff like Oxycodone is related to codeine! I know I don't *have* to take an Rx pain med, but I'm scared of the severe pain and that ibuprofen won't work. (Severely allergic to acetaminophen here... It causes everything to swell shut...) And I don't even know about Aleve. And actually, since I'm severely allergic to acetaminophen, Percocet/Norco/Vicodin won't work. Well, I'm afraid I'm going to stay up all night due to severe pain and that insomnia will make me mixed or something |

If it's any consolation, when I had mine out, taking 800mg ibuprofen was far more helpful for pain than the vicodin was. I have trouble with pain meds. They tend to make me very nauseous.

How about OxyContin? If they don't work out you can send them to me!

I didn't have a narcotic pain med when I had mine out, and they got all 4, and it was a mess. NSAID at prescription dosing was sufficient for post extraction.

I thought you meant....
I had hallucinations from the pain meds. Don't remember what it was but I saw aliens knocking on the balcony doors

I had my bottom two taken out last June. The prescription ibuprofen was just as effective as the vicodin for me. And if they're impacted, you're going to want some type of pain med, imo. No episodes following the procedure.

Just be upfront with your oral surgeon regarding all your fears, allergies and suspected allergies or intolerances. They will know what to prescribe you and they typically give you a phone number for reaching them post op should you have any issues come up.
Good luck ![]() |

When I had mine done, I was prescribed a larger dosage of ibuprofen. Wish I had that now to knock out this headache. Same thing with my husband and daughter - only NSAIDs.
Just tell your oral surgeon what bothers you and he can help out. |

Prescription strength ibuprofen is typically just 600mg. Same as taking 3 OTC pills.

Max is 800mg every 6 hrs. Did that for a while, hard on the gut though. I'm on max meloxicam now for arthritis, and have been for years. Hit me with 1000mg of tylenol on top and I hardly feel anything from such adventures. (hard on the liver, so I only go there if absolutely essential.)

I was just going to mention meloxicam. Rwwff just did in above post.
This meds is increasingly prescribed here in the U.S. for inflammatory pain. I am told by my docs it's considered safer than the usual NSAIDS. Blue, it may be another option for you sometime. ![]() Check with your pharmacist. ![]() WC |
