It's looking like I might have to come off of zyprexa. Seroquel isn't an option for me. Any thoughts on the other AP's

Abilify? Latuda? Vraylar? Geodon? Haldol? What are you looking for?

Geodon works really well for me. I use it to get a good night's sleep. Abilify really helped my depression.

Clozapine is the only antipsychotic that works for me, and it works really really well. The blood work is a pain though and some potential side effects can be really serious so it s usually only prescribed as a last resort.

Latuda is my miracle AP but my lows are much worse than my highs.

I'm diabetic and I can not get my fasting sugar under control. my A1C is above 8. I love zyprexa and do not want to come off of it but I have to get my diabetes under control. I think I am going to ask for Latuda or Rexulti maybe vrylar.

All of the 2nd generation AP's can adversely affect blood glucose level unfortunately. It's one of the many bad side effects they have in common, like weight gain--which of course is not unrelated. Some are worse than others.I haven't needed anything stronger than Seroquel or Abilify so I don't know if Latuda would be effective for you, but the only bad side effect I had was akathisia; bad enough, but easily treated with a good dose of propranolol. My PCP thinks it's the reason my glucose is a little higher than it should be, but I really don't eat very healthily either and I blame that.

Zyprexa is pretty bad for that. I got high cholesterol and high blood sugar on that one. I'm now on a small dose of Latuda. I also take Metformin for the diabetes and it works really well.
If you don't have heart issues, you could try Geodon. I can't because it was messing with my heart rhythm. But it was sedating for me. |

Haldol has been the only AP I can tolerate. I've been on it for a year. I think it works well. Unfortunately, at higher doses it gives me akathisia and nothing really helps me with that.

I liked Zyprexa but I gained 60 pounds in three months.
Abilify - I didn't feel like it was doing anything except giving me akathisia. Invega - was good, but the hospital had to go and change me to Risperdal. Risperdal - maybe more akathisia than Invega. Works about the same as the Invega. That's my ap drug train since 2010. |
