I was prescribed Risperdal for symptoms of bipolar and was wondering if anyone on here has anything to share about the medication. We're giving it a trial (one month) on low dosage and to see how it affects me.

It was great for me, as was its modern form, invega. Unfortunately they both raised my prolactin and eventually gave me extra pyramidal symptoms. I wish I could still take either one.

I'm on 1.5mg and I started this back in late May. It helped calm down that major anxiety I was having. Lately I've fallen into a depression, but I'm on a low dose as well.

It worked really well for me but raised my blood pressure to unsafe levels. This is not a normal side effect so we tried it 3 times but it always did the same thing so I can't take it. Too bad; I liked how it made me feel.

It worked pretty well for me until the extra-pyramidial symptoms kicked in (idk how to spell it) I was veryy agitated and had a restless leg feeling all the time, so they took me off of it. I was on it for about a month, it numbed me mostly. I felt little emotion.

I've had no problem with it. Been on it since 2012. I can say it takes away hyper sexuality. I do not have much of a sex drive anymore. But I'm single so it's no problem.

I think I took 8mg of Risperdal so a reasonably high dose. In the beginning it helped stop delusions *i think* but I gained weight RAPIDLY....I lost my period, was EXTREMELY bloated and puffy to the point of not being able to make a fist and then I broke out with in a horrible, painfully itchy rash from head to toe and vomiting over and over.....I stopped taking it instantly. I think I was taking latuda with it so it's unknown what caused the allergy, Latuda, Risperdal or the combo.

I'm was originally on 2mg of risperdal for years, but due to a really bad manic episode I was moved up to 6mg and am currently on 5mg. It's worked great for my mood and pulled me out of the really bad manic episode I was in (and the reason I went from 2 to 6 in the firs place). Though some of the side effects are that I lost my period, my sex drive isn't as high as before (which isn't a bad thing considering I thought about cheating on my wife to fulfill the sexual urges), and I've gained a lot of weight on it. Overall, the good has outweighed the bad on it. If I have my way (which hopefully I can in a few months) I want to get back down to 2mg.

Risperidone turned me into a complete zombie. I only started on 1mg, and then we tried dropping it to 0.5mg, but I couldn't think or speak or work or do anything for myself and so I stopped it.

But my response to meds is weird. Eg my pdoc warned me that both quetiapine/Seroquel and clozapine would knock me on my arse at first, and they were ok.

Good luck with it,

Thanks so much for the responses!
I wouldn't mind having a lower sex drive i just got out of a long term relationship and don't need that lol... I'm exercising regularly now so hopefully this doesn't get in the way of losing weight.
