I am freaking myself out. I take 200 mg of Lamictal in the morning and 200 in the evening. I kind of thought of how today I had that "medicine head" feeling, and after taking my last Lamictal pill of the day, it occurred to me that I might have accidentally taken 2 pills earlier in the day....for instance, when waking up, and rushed upstairs before work, thinking I did not take any of my pills.

I honestly don't know what to do, because what's done is done! I'm afraid of getting the rash or something, because it's possible I had a total of 600 mg in my system, compared to the usual 400. I called the Pharmacy, and the Pharmacist wasn't really sure how to advise me. There was nothing specific noted in any of the literature she had. Has anyone else taken an extra Lamictal pill accidentally? Did anything bad happen? I'm afraid to go to sleep now. Not really sure what to do, since it's late. I'm especially scared about the rash, although I never had skin complications from it before, but since I might have taken more than usual.

I hope that maybe it's not such a big deal, since it was just possibly one extra pill, and maybe I'm making too much of it?

Dont worry too much, taking one extra pill should be ok but everyone is different of course. Keep an eye out for a rash which usually starts around the mouth and also closing up of the throat. If this occurs go to ER.

If it was ME I would just skip my next dose and let my body even it out. I really think you will be ok.

Thank you, I'll try not to worry! I'm definitely nervous about the rash. Luckily, I never had any skin issues with Lamictal yet, and I'm definitely going to work on not being so disorganized with my medication! I don't want this to happen again.

Thanks, I was thinking that I shouldn't take tomorrow's dose. I guess it wouldn't be needed to call my pdoc just this time?

Honestly I think you'll be ok if you just skip the next scheduled dose and continue normally after that but I am NOT A DOCTOR and there's nothing wrong with calling to check with your pdoc

I did too before.

If you google epilepsy and Lamictal, some people take like 600-800mg a day. I'm on 400 right now and took 800 once. No rash or OD here. (I googled this before when I was in your situation.)

FWIW, my pdoc said that it'd have to take repeated use of the double dose for me to be put at risk for "the rash", like at least 2-3 days in a row of the same 800mg for me. Not sure how much truth that is or isn't since I'm not a doctor... but I'm just forwarding what he told me. Obviously you'll need to call your pdoc like HALLIEBETH said

Pharmacists know best in these situations. PDOCS are often shockingly ignorant to meds side effects. Shockingly. If the pharmacist didn't know I'd call around until you find one who does. Based on the replies to this thread however, it seem rarely safe to assume you'll be ok. Try not to worry (easy for me to say, I know). (((Hugs)))
