Got a new pdoc, he seemed cool. He seemes to listen better than the old one and was less judgy. We decided to stop the venlafaxine. Best idea ever! After some dumb issues that led to a sudden stop and a horrid withdrawal period, I could feel things again! Then the mood swings returned. I went back to pdoc. Poured my heart out. He asked the questions that the old pdoc never asked. He said no wonder your meds never worked - they are for the wrong illness. He agrees that bipolar is probs the culprit, and that there are signs that it runs in my family (gma was never upfront about her issues). I'm feeling super validated and relieved. But now scared and confused. What now?

Now you work with your doctor and hopefully your symptoms can be fully addressed (((hugs))). I'm deeply sorry you have bipolar but glad you have a good doc who asks the right questions. Now the healing can begin! (((More hugs)))

Oh....I forgot to say to read as much as you can and learn as much as you can about your personal brand of bipolar. Mood charts, learning triggers, coping techniques which work for you, sleep hygiene and overall healthy living will serve you well. Wishing you all the best!

PsychEducation | Treating the Mood Spectrum is a great place to learn about bipolar when you are new to it. It's written by a psychiatrist who specializes in bipolar and is very informative and well-done.

Bipolar can take some time to get a handle on. It is different for everyone. See your pdoc and T (if you have one) as much as possible initially so you can get both meds and coping skills sorted out. This will take time and energy but it is worth it. I wish you the best of luck on your journey.
