My dr wants me to slowly go up to the recommended dose of 200mg over two months, but I don't want to wait that long. What if I did it in only one month? I have been on it for a few days and was supposed to start on 25 but am already at 50. I don't feel bad and I haven't developed any kind of rash

Hi Tsterr. Welcome to Psych Central. Sorry you are feeling the need to take more lamictal faster. Your doctor is following a commonly accepted practice in the Mental Health Professionals according to all the info I got from others using it.

Tell your doctor what you are doing and ask them their opinion. There are medical reasons why the lamictal is increased slowly. Going against these is like trying to perform surgery on yourself. Leaving it to the professionals is the safe route.

Going up too fast greatly increases the risk of the rash. I had the rash and you do NOT want it. I know it is hard to be patient and wait it out but it is important to do it the way the doctor advises.

It's a such a slow process but well worth it when you get to therapeutic levels.

I would take it slow on the increase. Just follow what your doctor told you.

I recently started Lamictal. Started on 25 mg and each week have increased another 25 mg. Now I am on 150 mg. Aiming for 200 - 400 mg. I too wanted to rush it but fear the dreaded rash. I agree it is best to follow your pdoc's lead and stick to slow increases.

I also started lamictal recently. My doc is having me go up 25 mg per week. This week Thursday I should be at 75mg. He wants to aim for the 150-200.

Again let your doc know everything.

I can tell you from experience, I did rush the Lamictal and got the rash. Please follow your pdoc's instructions.
