My mother in law is driving me insane! She's acting like such a princess. Everything that happens to her is the end of the world. The mail came late...whine on the phone for 3 hours. she has a hangnail....call the national guard.

She doesn't eat right and got stopped up and ended in the hospital...again....

I get so I angry I want to yell.."try having a real problem lady. Try struggling with mental illness for 60 years!"

But then I think, hmmm, she's elderly and lonely and maybe she is nervous or depressed. We tried talking to her about this but she insists that because she is old she has a right to be cranky and demanding.

I'm frustrated because if she was MY mother I would drag her to the doctor and insist that we at least discuss the issue. But my husband and her other son aren't on the same page. Oh God I'm tired of this.

I'm sorry you're having such a frustrating time with your MIL. When you get totally fed up can you limit your exposure to give yourself a break? Too bad you can't get her to a doctor. I live with my elderly mom and get exasperated with her sometimes as well. Sending big hugs.

Thanks for this!

Thanks for listening she lives a block away from us. I can thank God that we don't live in the same house.

She's scheduled for her annual physical in a few weeks. My husband usually goes with her. I'm going to go with them this time and maybe ask for a little brief family meeting with the doctor. He's a really nice man and I think he would go for it.

She tends to downplay anything that is bothering her physically so i know she won't bring up any emotional issues on her own.
