Tonight I had a bit of a episode.

I had to buy a book in downtown Cairo, so I took a car directly there, bought the book, and hailed a cab back. The cab driver turned out to be a newbie to Cairo and had no clue where he was going. We drove around for ages until I finally found a familiar spot and got out. I walked towards home and finally found the street.

But for some reason, everything was different. There was a huge building that I never saw before. The street was longer than it should have been. The sprawling cafe sprawled more than usual. I was terrified. If I wasn't home (like my Google maps was telling me), then where was I? I stopped a guy and asked for directions, but mainly he was unhelpful (but impressed by my Arabic, go figure). I walked toward a familiar landmark and confirmed that I was indeed on the right street. But I was still terrified by how distorted everything around me was. Plus there were lots of dogs and I was worried one bit me but I didn't notice. I finally found my building and got home.

Does this sound like psychosis? I mean the distortions and feeling totally outside of myself. I'm really scared that I'll go crazy again.

Yes, it sounds like psychosis. Contact your psychiatrist as soon as you can.

Yes, this sounds like other times when you've described going into a psychotic state.

I'm in Cairo. Alhamdulillah I've found a great pdoc here. I'll tell her my story when I see her next Sunday.

No more weird experiences yet, except that I sometimes hear cats meowing in my room (no cats in here!). I've gotten a bit more sleep so I think that's helping.

Well... I guess that's not totally correct. This morning I forgot what time I go to school and ended up taking a cab rushing downtown when I totally didn't need to. Can being psychotic cause you to forget simple everyday routines? At least cabs are cheap as dirt in Cairo so I spent like 50 cents.

Are the cats loud? One time, after major surgery, I was staying at the hospital and heard cats meowing and fighting all night long. There were no cats.

I suppose psychosis could cause us to forget our daily routine. I can do this without psychosis though.

I am so glad you are in Cairo and enjoying participating in the program there.

It was very wise of you to find a good pdoc there.

It's always good to hear from you. Take care!

Loud enough for me to briefly think I'm back home with my kitties. Thanks for the good wishes! I am enjoying myself so far as much as I can with my limitations.
