How many of you use this as a sleep aid? I had a severe allergic reaction yesterday and had to take some and it put me right to sleep.

My pdoc had recommended it to me for sleep every now and then but it didn't work for me. I'm glad it does for you.

I take it for allergic reactions and it does make me sleepy. Not enough to use it as a sleep aid though.

I used to but now it gives me akathisia which is weird. I'm also not supposed to take it with emsam. It's a shame because it used to work really well.

Many docs suggest Benadryl as a safe alternative for helping to induce sleep.

My pdoc says, while it can be used and can be safe, it does not give the same quality of sleep as a med like temazepam, etc.

That said, many docs are now restricting certain classes of drugs, which leaves us with Benadryl as one of the available options.

I take it along with temazepam. I don't think by itself it would be strong enough to do much.

Benadryl does OK for me some nights. As does melatonin. But when I need to pull out the big guns, I go for Seroquel.

More people use than realize it. Look close at the label of PM headache/bodyache medicines. It makes me drowsy but if its hypomanic energy i am fighting it is not nearly strong enough.

My last pdoc also recommended me take it for sleep. It was not working for me so I stopped taking it.
