I left fl because of the hurricane. Problem is I only have 7 days of meds. My husband is out of 2 of 5 of his meds. I'm thinking we won't be able to get back for at least 10 days. Do I start skipping doses to have it for longer? I can't afford to pay for the prescriptions out of pocket or go to the ER to get a prescription .

I hope it is all over for you soon so you can move back. Be careful about titrating your medication to make them last longer. You may experience withdrawl with some depending on their half life. I do understand why you need to do this. If I was in your shoes, I would do the same.

Contact the nearest Red Cross and see if they can help you with meds.

Good luck getting your meds. It's not the best solution but if the Red Cross can't help you I understand why you would carefully skip doses or parse out the medication. It's not ideal but if push comes to shove that may be what you need to do. If it's only going to be 10 days and you have enough medication for 7, that shouldn't be too bad. If it looks like it's going to be longer, you might have to rethink this. You could also call your insurance company to see how they are working with their Florida customers. Good luck and best wishes. I'm glad you are safe.

In addition to the above suggestions, I recommend that you talk to your pdoc or leave a voicemail now. Just let him know about the situation with meds so that he's aware. I mean, i don't think he can help much given the situation, but he might be able to make some suggestions for you. It's also good to let him mentally prepare the next steps for you.

Call your doctor or head to a local ER and explain your situation. I suspect they will find a way to help.

If you use a pharmacy that is a big chain, they might help. Pharmacists/pharmacies have some flexibility unless it is a controlled substance. Walgreens has done this for us before when some medicine was forgotten on a trip.

I do go through a chain but I suspect that I would have to Pay out of pocket for the meds.I was going to skip a dose so I have 12 days of meds. If I'm going to be here longer I'll contact the red cross. I'm going to wait until Wednesday to call pdoc giving them time to get back. I can't go to the ER because it'll cost us money and won't for the foreseeable future.

I am confused so please forgive me. If you go to a chain and don't normally pay out of pocket why would you now?

I'd call your pdoc sooner rather than later. They may or may not be able to help you out. Most likely, they'd have to call in a Rx where you are THEN get an authorization through your insurance to get it covered if it's too early to fill. Not sure if your insurance is in-network with out-of-state pharmacies.
But I'd agree that if pdoc can't help, tapered doses are probably the way to go. Sorry you have to deal with this. |

If you go to the chain that has your prescriptions, they will transfer your Rx info AND your insurance info. Why wait till you are in a bad position? Check now and you should get your drugs and just pay the co-pay that you usually do. I hope your home in FL. is in good condition and you can get home soon. Good Luck!

My insurance only pays if I'm in the state of Florida. We're good we went to PA to be safe. We're not leaving until Thursday just to make sure the roads are clear and gas is available. We have to go through several states that were hit. I think our house will be a little flooded but they're saying 3 to 5 days without electric. My sil complex has power so we may stay there until power is on.

I also left Florida due to Irma.
My pharmacy here in Tennessee gave me a 30 day supply no questions asked

Christina did your insurance cover it? I can transfer my prescriptions but I don't have the money to pay for them out of pocket.

Usually your insurance won't cover it if it's not time for a refill. But in your situation I think it's definitely worth it to talk to the pharmacy. They may give you a few pills, which--even if they charge you per pill it shouldn't be that much for a couple- Or, since you're not likely to be alone in your problem, they may have made provision for replacing meds. I agree that calling your psychiatrist might be helpful.
