Yesterday evening a knock came at the door while at the same time I saw another black bulbous spider crawling below the window frame. I watched it for a moment then answered the door. We talked for 2 mins. When I got back to where the spider had been it was nowhere to be found. I know they are Wiley but this one seemed to just up and disappear. I asked my 17 yo if she saw the spider bu no she hadn't even looked. How am I supposed know if it was real or not?

Hey Moose,

I've been thinking of you, wondering how you are doing!

I don't know how you can tell if that spider was real, now that you cannot see it and nobody else saw it.

Keep an eye out, as you'll likely get another chance to see one!
You could "swat" one (and if you hit it), you'd find it?

I hope you've had a good weekend!

Sorry, just went by the generalization that most people have their cellphones close by.

If the spider is within reach, what about trying to smack it with a rolled up newspaper (even if it ends up being a hallucination)?

I'm just wondering how your hallucination behaves. Like, what if you try to smack it, will the hallucination be "smart enough" to show a squished buggie? Or will the hallucination behave differently?

And will the spider scurry away when you swat at it? Spiders naturally scurry away when swat at, but maybe a hallucination won't?

We have those huge wolf spiders here too. Here one second and gone the next. Never tried to swat one ~ too much of a big juicy mess.

Wolf spiders are the cutest little arachnopods living! Smashing one would be cruelty! Just look into its sad little eyes:
