Hello, does anyone have experience with fluoxetine?
I've never taken an antidepressant before.
Is there any side effects etc?

I've been on it every now and then. It's pretty mild. My sex drive always takes a deep nose dive though so i quit it after 2-3 weeks, but by then i'm not usually depressed anymore.

I picked up a few "prozac pounds" that I still need to lose. It was very difficult to titrate as too little did nothing and too much made me hypomanic.

I need to do one major clarification - I took it when I was in denial and using a depression with ADHD diagnosis that I engineered with a different doctor after rejecting my first bipolar diagnosis, so I did not take any mood stabilizer in concert with it.

Everyone is different. I gained weight on it.....went pretty manic with rapid speech, very social but people thought I was on drugs when I wasn't (in the way they thought at least) I felt agitated and would talk so fast I'd fumble over my words and do the raspberry with my tongue to try and speak clearly but couldn't. Your experience could likely be much different. Best of luck.

I took it for a while but it caused some severe side effects such as extreme night sweats. I would wake up in the middle of the night freezing cold and was like someone had poured a bucket of water on me in the bed. It also made me feel a bit zonked. I did work for me though for the most part.

Worked for my depression but I couldn't take the sexual side effects. Need to be able to get it up on a regular basis.

It caused sexual side effects for me too. I don't know how I forgot that! It was very frustrating.

Yep, sexual side-effects here too. Plus it only made me more unable even though I was on a Lithium at the time. It seemed to make me hypomanic then depressed; rapid cycling. However, antidepressants always make me react badly to the point my pdoc is never putting me on them again.

No side effects, no weight gain, no nothing...EXCEPT severe manic and mixed episodes. No more AD's for me since the mania has stayed with me for years after stopping them.

Formerly Dx'd MDD, now Bipolar II.
