I receive social security disability and still am trying to work 12 hrs a week at my job as a cashier. I just got back from a leave of absence due to dipping REALLY low into depression. Trying to work but I end up having many panic attacks and end up spending a lot of my shift in the restroom. I keep telling my husband I cannot work but he and my therapist keep telling me to try. Everytime I try to tell anyone that I feel awful working, and the stress triggers horrible thoughts, it's like they expect more out of me than I can do. I don't really know what to do but I can't keep going on like this

Maybe a different job? Something less stressful?

I've tried a variety and had issues at each job. That was one of the deciding factors on being found disabled through SSDI. All 3 psychiatrists that evaluated me said that they don't recommend working since it is such a huge trigger for me. However, even though i recieve disability payments my husband wants me to work. Everytime i try to quit, he gets upset because he feels I can work at reduced hours.

How about volunteering instead? Like at an animal shelter? Less stress but you still have something to keep you busy.

Maybe you could find a job that you could do online, at home. That would probably reduce the stress.

I'm sorry you are having difficulty. There are some good suggestions here. I hope something works out. If you continue to have problems talk to your pdoc. He may recommend that it be best that you not work until he releases you. In the meantime, you could be working on your difficulties in therapy.
Good luck. Sending big hugs. ![]() |
