Lately. my emotions are "bigger" than they should be. They are more extreme than the situations warrant. I am also having a harder time keeping myself together at work. It is harder to be patient. I get irritated easier. I find myself commenting negatively about things at work. I find myself "sitting" on my feelings, trying to control them more. I don't have a therapist. I'm not sure what I need to do. I try to have a positive attitude, be aware of how I am acting/reacting etc. I put in for a change in shift-going from eves to days which is more stressful (more ancillary staff, more tasks etc.) and I'm concerned that I am going to be able to keep myself together. Any suggestions??

I have no suggestions other than to talk to your doctor perhaps. Why did you change shifts to a more demanding time slot?

Thank you for reading my post and responding.

I haven't official taken the new position yet. My boss told me the job is mine. We are going through the formalities of the job being posted for 5 days first.

Going to days would give me more hours. I would also be getting off at 3:00pm instead of 11:00 pm at night (and I frequently work later and by the time I get home and unwind, I might not get to bed until 1, 2 or 3 am..

The other side is there is a lot more drama and I have seen other nurses struggle and be blamed that they cannot get their work done "on-time" when they have a lot more to do. Its been a constant that everywhere I worked, that it is difficult to get off work on time. That is the nature of the job working in healthcare when its 24/7 and your dealing with peoples health needs. I just don't want it to reflect poorly on my work record. I have only been working at this currant job for 7 months and time management is a issue, but my boss keeps telling me I will learn it. But I see how going to days is a "set up" with all of the stuff you are expected to do. I won't get to spend as much time with my patients. That Sucks.

That sounds tough. Follow your heart but be sure to think it through. I was once in a kind of similar situation and made a terrible choice. Be sure to think about it and do what's right for you. I took advise from other people and made a terrible choice. I hope things improve for you and your choice brings you what you most need.
