I read years ago about the "clean sweep" doctors who take people off benzos.

I used to take benzos and other meds.. briefly stopped the other meds..

Now my body can only tolerate benzos

I don't take a massive dose...

it kind of concerns me

But it's "fine"

They help me to sleep. I suspect that my anxiety is even worse during the day, but I can't be sure.

If I occasionally take them during the day for a specific event etc, they are helpful

I take benzos, too, and I think my body would be mad if I totally stopped them.

There's nothing wrong with benzos if you need them. There was a period in my life when I would not have functioned without them.

I've used benzos for a long time but I don't seem to need them now so I quit taking them. If you need them you should take them. I hear what you're saying about doctors getting wary of prescribing them.

Some days I need them some days I don't. If I don't need them I don't take them.

ugh. benzodiazepines. i'm glad i no longer take them. im not 'better' than those still on them, its just...tapering Klonopin was rough, and I do not like how some psychiatrists use controlled substances as a tool in getting power over their patients. piss your shrink off? oh, well...there goes your klonopin. buck up, kiddo.

then again, i seem to piss shrinks off on a regular basis. im seriously considering getting prescriptions from a family doctor. at this point, the community mental health clinic is starting to seem like a big pill pushing trap, and im tired of it. ((end rant))

My vote is YES, if they help you..then take them. The whole popular debate "benzos bad.... must not take benzos...blah blah blah," is not helpful. It chaps my grits. What really bothers me is when people who need them fall into the current hype on how "bad" benzos are and feel guilty or weak for needing them.

Maybe I need to go do a rant on the cuss thread today. I'm feeling a lot of frustration and anger about how people with MI are treated....or NOT treated when they need it.

I used to take them as needed, mainly for sleep. I'm not anti-benzos, but I have a cautious view of them for anyone who has addictive tendencies. I also couldn't drive safely with them in my system which became a problem a number of times on my morning commute. I quit them as part of my sobriety. They were just too tempting to abuse.

I agree with what others here are saying. If they help you, then why not? They are medicine designed to help people.

I am fine with taking Valium , It help my anxiety but more so it helps my Fibromyalgia and Psoriac arthritis I think more so.

Mostly I just take one at night to help me sleep as when I lay down all my pain seems to be worse.

I have no real "addiction issues" so my Pdoc is perfectly fine with leaving me on it .

If Benzos help ... then its fine to take them.

I have never asked for an increase in dosage and I never run out. My doctor is fine with prescribing me benzo's he knows I need them. Plus he always says in a pinch they are good to knock back mania for a little while

It really shouldn't matter what anyone else says or does. If your doctor is okay with prescribing them...who knows better than doctors, right?
