Any of my other bipolar peeps do any writing, painting, throw clay, make/build/remake anything?
I spent 3 hours today and only got around 8000 words, but I found the writing cathartic, a purging of emotions I keep stored. It's part of my bio, but I did drift off and write a couple of short poems outside of it as I went along. I'm sure they relate and may make it in to the final draft.
Anyone else have a good creative outlet?

I used to sculpt and paint, but (and I hate to say this) ECT took it all from me. You lose more than just memory to ECT yet I still feel it was worth the cost.

Ooh. I am sorry. I know that the meds sometimes take parts of me away, and some things they've just kept forever. I had been considering ECT until I asked my insurance about it. It's not covered unless I've tried all the medicines. I am on the last two. Strange how they give anticonvulsants or make you convulse to get the desired effect.

I have done just about all those things with mixed results. I am not very skilled at arts and crafts but enjoyed woodworking and carving. Arthritis is making carving, which I am not good at, difficult and I am thinking of selling my carving tools and learning to sculpt in clay. I am not a very good musician but enjoy it. These days it is mostly using a MIDI keyboard and computer and I do a lot of clean up of my playing. I wrote computer articles for publication some time ago and have written fiction but none of my fiction has been published. I have a novel started that has been languishing for years.

Not to take this off-topic, but to briefly clarify: the anticonvulsant is to prevent the muscles of the body seizing. The electrical current is causing a cerebral seizure. So, for the most part, the body is still, but the electroencephalograph that plots brainwaves records a seizure in the brain. I hope that makes sense.

UpDownAround, you should go back to that novel. What an accomplishment!

I have always been creative and have dabbled in acting, music, writing and photography. Now I just play guitar and sing or do writing. Nothing published.

I have lots of creative outlets and use it therapeutically, although usually when I am weller than currently, unfortunately my skills don't really live up to my needs.

I used to write poetry (sometimes still do)

these days though, i'm more in to story writing. nothing serious, but when I can't sleep, it's fun to write a chapter or 2.

i'm writing 2 at the moment.. 1 is about a family's christmas vacation in florida, and 1 is about a boy genius who gets his dream to go on a game show and meet his idle (who is the host)

part of the fun is also the research

I know for the florida one, watching videos of disney and getting a feel for the actual atmosphere was better than actually writing the story

I know mods don't like off-topic, but I'm fine with it. My meaning for them prescribing the seizure meds is as mood stabilizers

I have done various creative outlets. But at the moment I'm into writing rpg's and painting funkos. Let's see how long these last since I tend to get bored rather quickly.

Wow 8,000 words? That's quite an accomplishment!

I paint, and write. Sometimes I get mired in depression or hypomania and it falls by the wayside. But somehow, I usually manage to pick it back up again. It's enormously helpful when I do.

8000 is a lot? It was actually a little over that after the edits but it doesn't matter. It seemed lacking. Maybe I should give myself more credit. It just flows out like a burst dam when I write. I thought I was going too slow.

I used to play music on a piano when I was young. Later in life I purchased a couple programmable music synthesizers to play with. I hooked it up to my computer and played. The computer was recording the notes that I played. But the result was not good, so I had to edit allot of the notes that I played to make it sound OK. I think I need piano lessons. I bought an expensive camera and took pictures which I edited in Photoshop. The camera had been sutting there for a couple years. I also still have photos from my daughters first communion to edit and print.

Maybe I should take some of this up again?

Via email? That's a new idea on me. I never did get around to watching that show. Is it truly that good?

In music, as in all arts, you're only playing the wrong notes to yourself. Freeform expression is what makes new art, new music, new stories, and new life experiences. Keep playing the wrong notes until they become the right ones.

their are loads of websites that do groups via email.

I run, myself a group for jokes (but I don't mention it much on here)

downton... you either like it or you don't.

you need to watch the show from the beginning or it won't make sense, it's about this royal family who eat and sleep in a house.

if you like that kind of thing, you'll like it.

if not, you won't

their's more too it.. their's for example, a christmas special where they go shooting.

I love it.

Good advice. I should of stuck to it even though there would of been times I could not play.

You can return. If you don't have access to a piano still, go ask at a church. Tell them you're trying to learn and would really appreciate time on the piano.
Did I just recommend someone go to church? What just happened there?!?! I'm always afraid I'll catch fire just by walking in the door.

I'm not the best at painting but it's fun and I love funkos so it's a plus on all accounts.

I do rpging through yahoo groups. I'm part of a small Texas town game that i play two characters in. I'm part of a Hollywood group and have two characters in. And I'm co-owner of a supernatural group that I have multiple characters in.

It's fun, creative, and I get to meet new people who share my love of writing.

Now I get it. I thought you were talking about the anticonvulsants given just before ECT treatment.
