Do you ever hide in bed because you woke up "too early?"

When I'm in one my up swings I start waking up early. Early for me is 5 or 6am because I'm retired and usually sleep until 8 or 9am. I've noticed I have a tendency to try and hide it from my husband.

He tends to get nervous and gets afraid that I'm gonna get hypomanic. He'll come at me with eyes big and ask "are you ok?" Even though I know he cares, it's annoying. Yeah I'm ok....I just woke up early!

With the meds I'm on I'm relatively stable. Mostly it's just going through cycles of sleeping 9 or 10 hours, then switch over to sleeping 5 or 6 hours. I don't feel tired or grumpy in the low sleep days and I don't feel sluggish on the long sleep days. So I'm assuming I'm ok and just live with the cycles.

Any thoughts?

We have our whole family(except for our oldest son) sleeping in the same room. So when I wake up early I just hang out in the living room so I don't wake up the kids by getting in and out of bed. Yes the kids have their own room but they like sleeping with us so we just moved their beds into our room. I like it like that. We have a very close family.
You may be having some elevated mood when you sleep less but it doesn't sound too bad.

If that is a pretty much routine thing for you .... well then its fine. Your able to function.

If your sleep dropped to 4 hours a night then the bells start ringing.

Its good your husband cares enough to ask, altho I get that question alot and sometimes it yanks my chain.... I "try".. He knows I am not doing well at all right now.

It sounds like you know yourself well and care about your spouse so you try not to alarm him.

My (adult) daughter reads me for signs now. I will probably do the same thing next time she notices I'm talkative. Not every case of talkative means mania. Stuff we have to live with

I rarely awaken "too early." Yet when I do, I often "hide it" by staying in bed. I feel most days are too long as it is. I have nothing I can do that early and I risk awakening others.

it sounds like you are managing just fine.

I never sleep much...when he's going to work I'm up to help him get ready and when he's home he's sleeping so it doesn't matter.
I get the *are you okay* a lot other times though...he thinks my meds are *messing me up*.

When I get in that pattern (& I'm there now) I sneak out of bed, go to the living room & sit in the recliner until the sun rises so I don't wake my girlfriend up. Even when I'm getting 6-8 hours of sleep I wake up often. I'll go from the bed, to the recliner, back to bed, etc...I find that a "change of venue" sometimes helps me get back to sleep. I do so love my recliner!
