I'm not bipolar, or haven't been diagnosed as such. I do have a mood disorder, both depression and PMDD. I don't get it but it's like every 8-9 or 10 days, I have one or two days where I actually feel motivated and awake, but the problem is I don't sleep during that time. It's not mania. I lie in bed all night waiting to fall asleep, cuddling my dogs, bothering them while they're trying to sleep...and no sleep comes. Even now, it's 7:48 am and I'm not a wink tired.
I'm keeping a chart to see what this is or if there is a pattern. I'm not even sure if the pattern is what it is, because I haven't even been keeping my chart for a month. And the chart is only measuring the day on a scale of 1-3, with 1 being can't get out of bed, and 3 feeling normal. It's really up and down all over the place. Can this be bipolar? I don't know. I have asked other people with bipolar and they've said it's not the same. I just want to sleep, but it seems like this cycle goes around and around to where I'm so exhausted from not sleeping, and then I don't need sleep anymore. Anyone have any suggestions? Seesaw

Bipolar is mood spectrum disorder. Some people are depressed most of the time and then a get a little hypomania or mania every once in a while. Others are manic most of the time with occasional depression.
I'm a rapid cycler. Meaning I go though the spectrum every few weeks, or days instead of months. Weeeee! The roller coaster from hell. Everyone's experience with bipolar is different. What concerns me is your having periods of no sleep. That's can be stressful. Have you talked to a doctor or psychiatrist about this?

You're smart for keeping a chart to detect patterns. I encourage you to be evaluated by a professional like a psychiatrist to see what is going on. The lack of sleep is concerning. Sending big hugs.

I agree with Jennifer. Please take your concerns to your doc. I know not being able to sleep is frustrating. Maybe you can get something to help you.

Oh, dear. I'm sorry you have no insurance. It does sound like you need that testing.

Sleeplessness doesn't just mean it could be bipolar. It could be depression or insomnia. I'm sorry that you don't have insurance. I wish you good luck.

My sleep patterns are like a roller coaster too. Do you have a set schedule you have to follow ? When I was working I fell asleep easily because I was physically and mentally tired from a strenuous day . Many people suffer from insomnia.
For me personally, melatonin works wonders. I use it a lot instead of sleeping pills. Unfortunately , things like sleep studies and seeing Drs.,for people who don’t have insurance , is put out of reach and just plain sucks. I hope you can get this figured out and get the rest that you need.
