When I was younger, I might have had some rapid cycling, but not as much as now. I used to have depressions that would be for months, then mania/hypomania/mixed mania for a long time, etc.

Now, I am noticing that I'll "switch" quicker as far as my moods, more so than ever before. I went from depression, to an irritable (not euphoric, this time) type of hypomania, then it turned into mixed symptoms of both depression and mania at once, all within a span of just a few weeks. These past few days though have been especially rocky and confusing. Only time will tell when my mood switches again.

So for those of you who experience rapid cycling, what are your patterns like? How fast do you "switch" between mania, hypomania, baseline, depression, and/or mixed mood?

It used to be a couple weeks to a month, but I've worked on getting stable the past year. Might just have an off day here and there now. My main thing now I wish I could kick in the *** is all the anxiety.

Every 1-2 months because I'm an idiot who goes on/off meds all the time.

Basically, I get hypo/mania that lasts anywhere from 4 days to 3 weeks, then depression that lasts 2 weeks (since I usually return to taking my meds the minute I crash... so the meds seem to cut out the depression when they kick back in after 2 weeks).

But even non compliance aside, my ups really don't last too long. 4 days is pretty short, as is 3 weeks. Also, my depressions seem to last only 3 weeks if I don't go back on meds. Everything resolves pretty quickly.

Same as you...once or twice a month...often mixed episodes. ARRGGHH! Meds take the edge off but I know they seriously need to be tweaked. Seeing a new pdoc soon. Hopeful...

I'm what's called and ultradian cycler. Sounds like a circus act, but what it means is that I can rapid cycle through moods in a single day I hate it when that happens. I can manage to switch from thinking my husband is the love of my life to fantasizing about divorce in a few hours.

Strange .I come out of IP feeling great and with in 2 weeks I cycle "if " there was a med change as in thats how long it took for the meds to start working.

I dont lable that as a true episode because it doesnt last long ( couple weeks) then the meds are working well if not its time for a tweek.

My pdoc in TN explained that for a true shift for me is at least 2 weeks up and ugly or down and 2 weeks of wanting the world to implode because I dont want to be alive.

Recent past I have cycled quite a bit, sometimes hypo for only a couple of days. But meds have been getting tweaked. All my hypomania has been euphoric for the past few months so these short highs are not entirely unwelcome. I have only crashed hard once in the last few months. Mostly softer landings in low key sulk land.

Before meds I was cycling approximately every two weeks. Two weeks up, maybe a day or two of normal, two weeks down. It was exhausting. Once I found a med that worked for mania I stopped rapid cycling but unfortunately settled into severe depression for a couple of months. Now that I have effective meds for both poles I am stable most of the time.

I've been told by several professionals i rapid cycle but I guess I don't really know my patterns too well. It's all very random. I tend have an episode at least every couple months whether it's mild or not. Recently ip I rapid cycled every 4-5 days I would be in a different mood episode. That's according to my pdoc, not me.

Idk. I think I need to start charting my moods again

Thanks....you just reminded me, I used to use moodtracker.com. I should probably go back to tracking my mood.
