I’ve been on 400mg lamictal for a little over a year now and I’m still stuck at my baseline of mild depression although I’m getting worse, even with an increase in Wellbutrin.

Has anyone had more depression on it?

Is it a drug you can stop cold turkey?

No, I've never had more depression on it.

It hasn't helped or worsened my depression, but it does get rid of my chronic pissy-ness, which is the only reason I'm still on it.

I wouldn't stop it cold turkey. It can cause seizures if you do.

Do not stop using lamotrigine suddenly, even if you feel fine. Stopping suddenly may cause increased seizures. Follow your doctor's instructions about tapering your dose.

You don't want to stop it cold turkey from what I know. I think you can get the rash coming off it too.

I'm not able to stop most medications cold turkey. I was on lamotrigine for 3 or 4 years. It didn't do much for me in terms of preventing mania or depression. All I can say is that I was more detached from my moods but not in a way that helped. A slow taper down, about as slow as the taper up worked. I was antsy and anxious at times on the taper but I do remember feeling more alive once I got off.

Lamictal is one of those drugs that you don't want to cold turkey off. If you do so, it could cause seizures and withdrawal symptoms. As for Wellbutrin, the most recent article I read stated that SSRI's don't work for Bipolar Depression.

I'd definitely recommend talking to your Pdoc. It might be time to change up your meds.
