Hi,
I'm a long time reader but have only just joined.
I have a brittle form of Bipolar 1, rapid cycling. GAD with panic attacks. Claustrophobic.
Diagnosed 3yrs ago. On Lithium, Seroquel (both types) and Valium (prn).
My bipolar was triggered by surgical menopause. Is this true for anyone else?
Does anyone else have brittle bipolar?

Welcome aboard, I am not sure if I have ever heard the term, brittle bipolar.

Your circumstances may be unique or not, but we are all struggling with some form of bipolar. I hope you find a community with us.

I have experienced with my bipolar feeling the center of the universe to feeling like a piece of poop floating in a toilet. Sometimes it's a rapid flip but since I've been on mood stabilizers I've been able to take notice of triggers before I respond them. They lower my metabolism so I gain undesirable weight.

In short, no your not alone.

If I may share a goal of mine, it is to turn all my triggers into toggles meaning each mood I my feel can be turned off and on just by being aware of what causes me to flip.

Now-a-days I don't let outside events trigger my inner most emotions. I have developed a logical filter to only be affected by those who care about my well being.

Hi, Pooky, and welcome to PC...I'm glad you decided to join! Yes, I'm brittle too with your same symptoms...although I'm BP II. My meds are invaluable...but I still have breakthrough episodes anyway.
You'll find lots of support here, so feel free to join in!

I don't know what brittle means to you but I do feel very fragile at times. Like one more thing could break me.

Yes I believe many of us feel this way sometimes.
I know I have many times, you are not alone in feeling this way.

Thanks for the lovely welcome

In my side of the world 'brittle' is used to describe Bipolar in someone who does all the right things and still has episodes (that don't require necessarily a trigger to have the episode). I think fragility is part of it.

Not sure that makes sense?
I have woken up both manic and other times suicidal with no reason why. I'm even worse when I have a trigger.
I think my brain walks a tight rope sometimes.
