Does anyone have any crisis line experiences you'd like to share?
I want to use one, but I don't want the police called on me.

I prefer texting so I’ve used 741 741 many times and it’s been helpful to me. It’s given me a new perspective and distracted me from strong SI. I called a prevention line one time and he immediately asked where I lived so he could send an “assessment team”. I thanked him and hung up. Generally, what they try to discern is do you have the intent, do you have a plan and do you have the means. I would think that if you call from your home phone and sound like an immediate danger to yourself or others they could have the police visit you as they’ll have your address.

I hope this helps some and that you start feeling better ((((Hugs)))).

I called one last night, they will only call the police on you if you can't contract for safety. So make sure you're not alone (like someone else is at house) and you have no access to means to hurt yourself. They were really nice and helped me safety plan and talked to me.

Useless (if you’re talking about the crisis text line)

The girl’s name was Clara and it felt like talking to a robot. She gave the same response to anything I said. Then when I wanted to tell her how I wanted to kill myself, she was like, “before we wrap this up, you’re going to get a survey...”

So yeah, she pushed me off the phone instead of listening to me. She made me feel worse.

I guess it’s worth a try, though. Always good to try something before you decide don’t like it

I once called a suicide hotline and had a very helpful talk with a nice lady. At the end of the talk it was surely clear to her that I was feeling better and expressing that I was not a danger to myself. No police were called, but that was my call.

I had a very GOOD experience...very caring and helpful...talked for a long time. After it was clear that I was no longer in imminent danger the man helped me locate MH resources in my area...and asked me call him back the next day (or sooner if I needed) just to check-in and see how I as doing.
