My hubby wants to take me into the city for dinner. All I can think is that I don’t want to because that means I have to shower. I haven’t showered in 3 wks....

Oh and this is despite the fact that I have nice shampoo and shower stuff to make the shower more appealing (as per psych).

I totally understand. I only shower twice a week, maybe. Sometimes only once a week. But I do wash my hair every other day. It’s easier than showering, but I hate to do that too. I only do because I work so I can’t show up with greasy hair.

I totally understand too. I don't know why it's so hard for me to actually get in the shower. I always feel better afterwards. The longest I've gone is a week though. The week recently was because I was depressed. My husband told me I was starting to smell. lol

That's such an embarrassing question, but I have a problem jumping into the shower, too. I postpone it & postpone it, & then when I finally do it I can't understand what all the anxiety was about. I'm down to about once a week. Gross.

I think it is a lack of caring about myself and just wanting to sit and distract myself. I can get really anxious in the space of a few minutes. Anxiety is my main problem

Olanzapine is soooo effective for me. I hope it helps.
Yep-it makes me gain weight, but I really need it sometimes. I switch back to seroquel/quetiapine when the episode is over. |

I haven’t showered over four weeks because of my depression. It is very hard to do so. Even thinking about it is exhausting to me.

Don’t feel bad about your hygiene....many of us go through it or are going through it. I’ve been in the only take a wash off period.....when my depression was really bad. Now I go sometimes two days. But I started listening to music while I shower and I turn on my wax burner. The aromatherapy has really helped me all spring and summer.

What’s funny is that I used to love baths - baths with bubbles. I’d happily take a bath over a shower.
I no longer live in a unit with a bath. When I was manic I thought I could breathe underwater and when I was depressed - well, the result was that I was supervised if having a bath. Self care seems to be a problem no matter my mood. When I’m manic I think I’m too brilliant and important to have a shower. |

When I'm depressed, I get a phobia of taking a shower. I think it's because showering means I must face the rest of the day at a functional level, rather than at a minimally functional level. Showering is required for functional activities like going out to eat or doing something social, when I'd rather just sit around the house or go to the park or something.

I have been there before. Idk what it is, for me I think it's partly not being able to get up in the mornings. I used to shower at night.
Sometimes I will take a bath or sit down in the tub with the shower on bc the idea of satnding up seems too exhausting. |

I'm also bad at brushing teeth. I usually only brush my teeth in the morning if I have to leave the house and I never brush them at night. |

You're right.
Well I've managed to have a shower (yay me). It was quite nice but I'm exhausted. I think I hate the idea of getting in a shower because I find that it takes a lot of concentration - did I wash my face yet? Was that shampoo I just put in my hair or conditioner? I've been so anxious about the idea of going into the city that I decided to stay home. |

I find it much easier to take a shower when you jump in with another person.

Idk. When I’m severely depressed and just trying to stay alive from one minute to the next it’s not even on my radar. When I’m feeling just normal to moderately depressed I don’t have a problem. Unfortunately, I don’t experience hypomania. I do know how close to impossible it can feel to get into that shower. It can be a really big deal. You usually always feel better afterwards though.
