So I have a trip to New York/ new jersey coming up for a funeral this weekend. Haven't flown for a while and my anxiety has been ramped up as I prepare for the trip. I usually use weed to deal with anxiety issues, but since I like my freedom, I can't travel with any. Because of this my doc gave me a klonopin prescription to use on the trip.
My questions are: Should I expect to be drowsy? Should I take it at night if possible? Will I be able to take it and still function in NYC? Will I have withdrawal symptoms if I take it sparingly for 5-7 days? Thanks for any replies.

Klonopin does tend to make one sleepy, so it's best to take it the night before a trip. It has a half-life of 15-24 hours so the anti-anxiety effects last quite a while. And no, you won't have withdrawal if you only take it in small amounts on a short-term basis. I was on a small dose for years but I only take it on rare occasions now...usually for flying!

Yes it will probably make you sleepy, I would recommend taking it at night but if you take it in the morning you should still be able to function, unless you are incredibly busy. No, you won't have withdrawal from taking it for just a week. Don't mix it with alcohol!

It makes me sleepy if I'm not engaged, but getting to an airport, boarding, attending a funeral, being around other people, would all be stressful/stimulating enough to ward off sleep. For the record, I always take klonopin when I fly (no fear of flying, but stressed by whole process). IMO, taking it the "day of" isn't a problem...at least for me. YMMV...

It will calm you if you can’t sleep or are having travel issues. If you’re new to it, start at a low dose!! And no, you won’t get WD after just a few days. Good luck and safe travels!

Drowsiness shouldn’t be an issue under the circumstances you’re describing, especially if it’s in the 0.5-1mg range. If I were you I would take it the day of and/or on just a PRN basis. It works quickly, should take effect in 15-30 minutes and will last quite a while. As others have said, withdrawal shouldn’t be an issue.

My experience with it has been more like bioChE’s. It doesn’t make me drowsy and I’ve been on a relatively high dosage before. It doesn’t kick in immediately though so don’t wait until the last minute to take it. You won’t experience withdrawals with short term usage. Good luck and happy travels!

Klonopin made me very sleepy when I first started taking it, but I was prescribed something like 2 mg per day, taking 1 mg in the morning and 1 mg at night. I complained a lot about the drowsiness and I believe it was reduced to just 1 mg at night. I don't recall that sleepiness bleeding over into the morning.
Nowadays I only take 0.5 mg at night, a small dose. I don't know if it does anything for me, but I don't have anxiety. When I do, I also have Ativan prn.I do not think that 0.5 mg even makes me sleep at this stage. I rely on Seroquel XR at night to help me with my sleep. |

Well Klonopin did nothing for me, but with Xanax, though it does tend to make me sleepy, I can also fight off that effect fairly easily.

Thanks all. I'm really struggling with this **** because I used to travel for work. 22 countries, all over the us, canada, and mexico. Had no problem with all of it. Now, after the mental illnesses have kicked in 10 years later, I'm scared to travel to a place I used to live. **** you anxiety!
