It’s almost 2 weeks since starting lamotrigine 25mg a day. I’ve had acid reflux periodically over the years but since starting this med it’s flared up and is getting worse each day. The only thing different is this new medication. I’m avoiding fatty greasy spicy food and sleep with 2 pillows right now. Frustrated! Afraid to start the 50 mg on thursday.
Anyone else experience this and did it subside over time??

I did not and I usually get it quite easily; I have had to get off other medicines due to it.

25mg is a a very low dose...I'm on 400mg, & while I've had acid reflux, I found that not eating fatty foods after 6:00, or so helped. Of course, the fact I had my gallbladder removed is the biggest issue.

I start 50mg/day this week for 2 weeks then 100mg 2 wks then 200 mg. I guess I’ll just see if it worsens once I start the 50 mg and address it then. Had plain chicken and boiled broccoli for dinner ugh boring.

Interesting, my pharmacist said less than 5% of people on lamotrigine get acid reflux.
Then I read 20% of people on imovane get it. And I doubled my imovane dose late last week. Now I wonder if that set it off. Hmmmm?
I’m going to try and be off it completely in a couple days and see.

I think it's great that you make attempts to keep yourself as well informed as you can, rather than just taking things as they come. It's important to be your own advocate where on's health is concerned. Good luck! Acid reflux sucks! Did you ever have one of those attacks where the stomach acid actually gets pumped up into your nose?! God! What a horrible experience!

Oh my gosh! No I’ve never experienced that, that’s awful!!
It’s a little better today, I’m finding plain Greek yogurt helps soothe it. Still eating plain boring food.

I agree with you about self advocacy though some have told me I spend way too much time googling reasons not to take medications. I am who I am.

Yes, I've had the nose thing happen, and I'm afraid of burning mucous membranes, which are sensitive! I have a "neti pot" that I use for allergies in the Spring, so I use this use to irrigate my sinuses and throat to hopefully neutralize the acid and reduce the horrid smell. Nothing worse than being awakened from a sound sleep and having to deal with this. Best to eat nothing for 2-3 hours before going to bed, I think.
