So I am slowly increasing my Lamictal dosage and am now at 25mg. I noticed myself feeling a bit better on just 12.5mg, not so uncomfortably hypomanic, which I took as a good sign. I've always been extremely sensitive to new medication but I've been having some super strange side effects.

First, I'm having SUPER vivid dreams and I remember all of it. It feels as if I am literally in a movie, and when I wake up I'm confused about what is going on.

Second, I feel super out of it. I don't really know how to describe it but I almost feels like I ate an edible or something. Sort of "body high" but in a weird fuzzy way. And I feel like my head is kind of foggy, and I'm having strange thoughts.

Lastly, (and this is embarrassing) my libido is suddenly through the roof. I have no way to burn off energy (if you know what I mean) and honestly it's starting to interfere with my life. Also having super sexual dreams which ties into my first side effect.

My questions are:

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms?
Do they go away over time?

pls help

P.S I plan on talking to my pdoc and T about this, but I can't see them till after the holidays so for now I am kind of stuck

25mg is a tiny dose. I don't think 25mg cause all your side effects, with possible exception of fogged mind, but everyone is different. Are you taking anything else?

Normal therapeutical dose of Lamictal is 200mg or more. But you have to go up in tiny steps. Increasing the dose by 50MG every 2-3 weeks. 25mg probably even better. Otherwise you'd risk some really serious side effects. I'm on 250mg and still feel awful.

Cheers

Sounds more “ hypo “

The libido ramping up can be a good indicator of hypo.

Lamictal takes time to work it’s highly unlikely your getting any benefit at this point

I'm also on 10mg of Lexapro and .5mg of Klonopin. Do you think either of those could be causing it?

I have been stuck hypo for about 2 weeks and thought I was finally coming down, but maybe I still am. So frustrating.

Do you think I should go off it? I thought that maybe with a mood stabilizer it might be okay?

It takes a long time to titrate up. I am on 400 mg daily (along with other meds). I didn't notice Lamictal doing anything for me until 200 mg. Prior to that, I was still swinging between hypomania, mania, and depression, because nothing was taking effect just yet.

Why are you doing this without a doctor's order? The Psychiatrist needs to supervise med changes

?
I'm not, my pdoc told me to cut my 25mg pills in half for 4 days and then take the full pill. I just can't see her next until after New Years.

Your original post didn't mention that it was under a doctor's supervision. It mentioned you can't see the doc until after new year's.

I mention this because lamictal has a very strict dosing schedule to avoid dangerous side effects.

Like I said before: everybody is different and reacts to med in different ways. Lexapro can trigger manic episodes but 10mg is a small dose too. Now Klonopin can make your mind fogged but IMHO it wouldn't cause any "high" or "hyper"sensations, most likely the opposite. You should really be asking your doctor. Your doses of Lamictal and Lexapro are too small to have any significant effect. Most likely you're going through a hypo episode and the meds are not helping, because they're small doses.
