I have been hypo for over a week now and I know the crash is just around the corner. Is there anyway to make the landing softer? I don't wanna get depressed and give up on life which is what I usually do. Any suggestions?

My best suggestion is to nip it in the bud before it becomes full-blown mania.
In my experience, "the higher they fly, the harder they fall" is very fitting for people with BP. I know if I'm manic for a week, then I'm only depressed for 2-3 weeks. But if I'm manic for a month, I'm depressed for many months. All that said, do you have any PRNs? Can you ask your pdoc about taking extra zyprexa? |

I agree with Blue.
Try to nip it in the bud now. Wishing you a soft landing. ![]() WC

I took 15mg of Zyprexa for 3 days straight when this started and I slept for 3 days, woke up and was still hypo. I don't know what else to try. The zyprexa usually works every time. What kicked it off was cold meds, but I stopped taking them as soon as I noticed an elevated mood.

I hate when that happens! Sometimes I sleep when manic or hypomanic, and it feels like there is nothing that works.
Don't APs need at least 5 days to kick in? My pdoc says 7-10 days. So maybe you've just gotta wait until they kick in? |

I hope so. I am so enjoying this ride, with all the energy and happiness. But I know how horrible the crash is, so I'm starting to get a little nervous.

I don't always crash after a hypomania or even a full blown mania. Sometimes my psychiatrist helps bring me down to normal again and I stay there. I have had many times when I was manic, then stable for a while, and then became hypomanic or manic again. Please work with your psychiatrist to slowly bring you down, then be optimistic while practicing healthy living skills and incorporating positive experiences. Maybe that will prevent a fall into depression.
I know that we don't all have the same flavor of bipolar (and I don't mean just bipolar 1 vs. 2, but how it operates), but it is always worth the efforts to fight what would previously be inevitable. I'm trying to change the course of my illness. I think that we do have some degree of control if we do the right things at the right time. |

Thank you so much for the hope you gave me. To go from this to stable would be wonderful. I see my pdoc next week so I'll ask him about it then. Thanks again BirdDancer.

do you have any gabapentin or benzodiazepines? those help me w/ hypomania, agitation, general mood instability (not for daily use, ideally).

I have clonazepam I can take. I usually have one before bed and it calms me down enough to get some sleep. I still wake up around 4am, but it's better than nothing.
