I only have a budget of $40 per pay period and I seem to go through it as if it wasn't there to begin with. It's gone before the next paycheck hits via direct deposit. That's for sure. In the past when I overspent it was for things that I thought would or could make me happy (ier) than I was at that given moment. Almost always I would be riddled with guilt or shame - depending on what I spend the money on - after the transaction was complete.

Why do we all feel so guilty and ashamed? I do too, as though I'm always doing something wrong, like I can never get it right.

my retail therapy involves the dollar store, and many thrift stores. I get to come home with all kinds of stuff and its easy enough to donate it back if I find I don't need it or want it anymore.

I tend to do some major damage while I'm out spending money that I shouldn't. I also engage in a lot of risky behavior when I have access to large sums of money. I just always feel dirty after I spend too much money.
