I’ve been on On geodon for a while with some success . Having some real struggles recently. Crazy insane depression. My pdoc has told me to come off of the geodon and start 20mg Latuda. Due to being in such a dark place already I’m super nervous that a low dose of Latuda isn’t going to replace the 100mg of geodon. Has anyone switched this way / had success with it? Just trying to put my mind at ease

Latuda worked for me initially, but then I got depressed and needed a higher dose. The problem was that Latuda sedated me already at 20mg and 40mg. I didn't want to increase the dose to 60mg because I figured I'd be more sedated.

Not everyone gets sedation, though, but for me, the sedation was on the same level as Seroquel's sedation, maybe slightly less. But I slept 10-11 hours on latuda and 10-12 on Seroquel.

hi. there have been some attempts to convert the various atypicals into chlorpromazine (Thorazine) or Haldol equivalents. I don't know what they base these conversions on, but remember; tranquilizers, old and new, are low potency, moderate potency, or high potency. Thorazine is low potency. Haldol is high potency. 100mgs CPZ=2mgs Haldol, something like that.

anyway, point is...see if you can find a conversion table. sometimes, especially with the atypicals, lower doses -are- more beneficial for depression (but less helpful for agitation, psychosis, mania, etc.).

Its also worth keeping tabs on how much you're taking because tardive dyskinesia and other risks from tranquilizer treatment depend in part on cumulative exposure. That is, taking the equivalent of 200mgs/Thorazine for 10 years is probably better than the equivalent of 600mgs/Thorazine for 10 years.

hope this helps. psychiatry is often kind of...well, I guess a couple steps up from witch doctorin', lol.
