This time it does not have to do with me, I'm fine. But my son is really struggling. He was taken off his zyprexa cold turkey a week ago. He is barely eating barely sleeping and is having suicidal urges. I was upset when his Pdoc took him off it without titrating down, but he said it was fine. He has been going through very bad withdraw. So I called the pharmacist and explained what was going on. He told me to cut his dose in half for a week and then have him take half a dose every other day for a week. I hope that works, cuz these side effects are brutal. I would way rather have issues than watching him go through this.

I’m so sorry, that’s got to be hard. Nothing is worse than seeing our kids go through pain. . Thank goodness the pharmacist had more sense than the pdoc and told you how you could titrate him down. I really hope that will help his withdrawal symptoms and he will start to improve.

That's how I got off of zyprexa each week cut dosage in half and then took it every other day. Minimal withdrawl symptoms.

I, too, am very grateful to helpful pharmacists.
I hope the slow titration helps.

I can't imagine just dropping zyprexa without a taper.

I've been up since 2 am. Can't stop worrying about my son. I just hope he doesn't do anything stupid. My heart breaks for him and I constantly feel like crying.
But if I don't get enough sleep I end up on the crazy train... and I JUST got off. Just gave up on sleeping...It's now 5 am and i made my coffee and just decided to start my day.

He only goes to school if he has an exam. Other than that he just hides in his room.

If he tells his tdoc that he's actively suicidal, will they send him to the hospital again?

He should go in. Its far better safe than sorry. If he is suicidal, take him in.

I am really sorry. How old is he?
And do you feel about the hospital?
Can you take him somewhere as a distraction? Camping (although it is freezing), a cheap weekend getaway? Hiking?
I hope you get some sleep and rest and I hope that he starts calming down, soon.

I'll talk to him when he gets home and ask him if he thinks he's safe here or not. That's what my pdoc always asks me when I'm not doing well.

He's 6'1 and 180 pounds. I can't physically throw him in a car to go to the hospital. If he does not want to go, I can't force him.

He's 17 and if he needs the hospital, then I'll support that. I don't think trying to distract him would work. His problems will just come along for the ride.
