I'm left to my own devices on this one. I have no prn. I use kava when I can remember to.

In all honesty, mid to high-dose Seroquel. Sometimes I have a love-hate relationship with it, but it does work for me. Some don't like the side effects, but they are manageable enough for me. I thought it was just a mood stabilizer/AP, but when I lowered the Seroquel, the anxiety came back really bad. When I went back up on it, it made me realize just how much it was helping me with anxiety/panic as well. I won't budge from any dose lower than 300-400 mg from now on. I feel it "boosts" the effectiveness of klonopin too, which I find to help with anxiety and panic, and I usually don't feel the need to take too much of it.

Lorazepam worked pretty well and is a good PRN. Xanax works very well as far as fast relief, but it's too short-acting by itself (and it's addictive potential could be problematic for some people, but that's with every benzo). I like how klonopin lasts pretty long though. Gabapentin is helpful too.

While some say they don’t respond to it, I find gabapentin pretty effective. The nice thing is, it is not addictive. If I forget to take it, I’m fine.

Something about lithium seemed to make it even more effective. I had to cut the dose in half. I’m not all together sure if the lithium reduced my anxiety, or if the lithium made the gabapentin work better.

.
I very much found gabapentin addictive. I blew through a month's supply in no time. I enjoyed that feeling of disconnect it gave me. Most people don't experience that, but I did.

I’ve heard that they’re abused for the buzz, but not really addictive like benzos. I’ve heard they’re called gabbies or johnnies as street drugs.

I definitely get the buzz, and my pdoc freaked out on me when I wanted more than her max dose. Fortunately, they became super strong in combo with lithium and I couldn’t take much anymore or I’d be too dizzy.

Did you go through withdrawal to get off of them? I forget to take them even, so I have a little stockpile.

Xanax ! Because it’s quick acting it helps me nip a huge attack fairly quick along with coping skills.

Meds can only do so much of course that’s where coping skills come into play.

I’ve been taking various doses of Xanax since 1985. As much as 10mg daily (2mg 5x daily) and I’m now on my lowest dosage - 1mg 4x daily + prn.

I know, I know. Xanax is the worst drug ever and each time that I’ve gone to a hospital during the past 14-15-years, every do-good-doc takes me off of Xanax and puts me on Ativan or some low-dose bento and I suffer through the days until I can get back home to my Xanax.

My pdoc refuses to prescribe it for me. My PCP writes the script.

I’ve never abused Xanax. I’ve never abused any drug, not even aspirin.

It works for me. If I’m in the throes of a panic attack, I slip one 1mg tablet under my tongue (and another if needed) and I usually come down. I am... dependent on Xanax. It may have a placebo affect on me now. It keeps manic anxiety away most of the time.

I hesitated to answer as I don’t know of any doc that will prescribe Xanax for anxiety/panic attacks these days.

I hope that you can find something that works. Panic attacks feel like dying, over and over.

Peace.

I was on 2400mg daily (600mg tabs 4X daily) and it did nothing - nothing at all - for me. I’ve had it as a mood stabilizer and used for nerve pain. Didn’t work for either.

AP’s calm me somewhat. But Xanax is my gold standard for anxiety/panic attacks.

Diazepam for panic attacks, Clonazepam for generalized anxiety. And deep breathing and grounding techniques.

I liked the idea of propanolol, but it causes insomnia in some people. I didn’t know this. It set off a manic event when I couldn’t sleep (my anxiety got worse, so I took more propanolol, and this snowballed).

This bought me the bipolar I diagnosis.

My health care provider refuses to give me anything for anxiety. I think this kind of borders on malpractice. But it is what it is.

I take valerian but only effective in mega doses. It also takes about an hour to kick in and makes one feel sedated so is only good at night.

Passion Flower is a great curb for anxiety but expensive. Best in a tincture form.

Diazepam worked extremely well for me but my health provider will not prescribe it. Just as well, I guess, but I never abused it. But who knows, maybe it contributed to my depression. Still, I miss it. Stupid when a medicine works and they won't prescribe it.

Xanax. They are good to have around for the occasional anxiety attack.

I take gabapentin for anxiety and when I forget to take it, it's anxiety to the max.

I also have klonopin as a prn that I barely take cause the gabapentin does most of the work.

I take the lowest dosage of Xanax, and it has really helped me with my anxiety since I started taking it this past summer. I typically take it 3-4 days per week. Previously, I was on klonopin and it just gave me a disconnected feeling so I rarely took it. Lexapro had no impact on me.

My anxiety will be worse the next day if I forget to take it, but it isn’t terrible.
