No matter where I go lately I have been having severe rage. I try so hard to control it but I just can’t do it. Tonight I went to a store and it set me off so bad that I started bawling my eyes out to my dad. This led me to get severe heart palpitations and I couldn’t get them to stop so I thought I was going to have to go to the ER. My friend came and picked me up to bring me and we decided to have me go sit at her house for a while to calm me down and see if that would correct it. Took like an hour but fortunately it calmed down enough where I don’t have to go. I just don’t know what I’m gonna do about this! It seems to be getting worse and it’s to a point where I feel trapped like I can’t go anywhere.

I have felt the same way before. It took awhile to find the right meds, and the right therapist. Keep going, it can get better.

Have you tried Lamictal? It did wonders for my temper.

A good PRN medication would help you when you are having an episode.

My mom had a problem with rage—she couldn’t control herself. It didn’t matter if she was in public.

Her problem wasn’t like an uptick in mood/mania. This could happen anytime. She was depressed and angry at the same time, always. She also had problems with anxiety (always present) and gambling.

She needed klonopin plus an antipsychotic (AP) and she was a different person.

Gabapentin is also very calming. I’m on it for anxiety, but it is so relaxing you might find it helpful. It’s a nerve pain med that is prescribed for bipolar anxiety. It’s not addictive, but some might overdo it because you get a little buzz from it.

I’ve been on it for five years. Ironically enough shortly before my rage episode I was talking to the pharmacist about tapering off of it.

Maybe you need your dose raised? I was manic 2 months ago and rage was what really got me talking to my pdoc. She put me on Lamictal and it was like a magic wand. Took about 2 weeks and the rage subsided. Lucky thing, because I was tossing people out of my life left and right.

I take 400. I think that's the max.

They will not move me up to that. With that said I am absolutely exhausted today. It is unbelievable. I’m just so thankful that I only had to work a half-day today.
