I think I am having rebound insomnia. I was on 200mg of seroquel a night for about 2 months. I went off of it late last week and now I can't sleep for anything. I was prescribed doxepin and temazepam for sleep. The doxepin keeps me asleep but I can't get to sleep. Has anyone gone through rebound insomnia and how long does it last?

My rebound from Seroquel didn't last that long, but I would do sudoku, as well as attempt to read a book or text not on my computer. I just needed to find a way to tire myself out... and that was good enough to put me to sleep.

I don't like to exercise before sleep since that keeps me awake. The adrenaline rush and all.

You can draw/write, too. So basically, try anything to do with text or pen on paper. It kinda strains your eyes and the strain makes them want to close. Not sure if straining is good, but it can work if you're desperate for sleep.

A man in my support group is going through this with Zyprexa. Maybe it is different. he had to go back on it and step down his dose. Then that gave him insomnia still, so he is stepping down even more slowly, involving slicing the pills in quarters.

Blah. Yes, I have had rebound insomnia. I ended up completely exhausted and went back on medication to help me sleep.

I've had rebound insomnia with Seroquel. I've never been on doxepin though. Unfortunately, I ended up going back on Seroquel after trying to discontinue. Even getting through a day without Seroquel put me through hell. I tried going off of it for a few days. Here's the thing: I didn't taper slowly enough. I think I'd be saying something different if I did, so I bet that's the key.

I am very sensitive to being off Seroquel. When I drink (rarely now), I get terrified of taking Seroquel, so I try to skip it, but I end up giving in early in the morning and take it by cutting down the dose. I feel like hell as it is after drinking, so skipping Seroquel makes it so much worse. I hate being so dependent on a substance for sleep.

Klonopin and Gabapentin was not enough to help me through the withdrawal, and I figure that Seroquel's benefits (for me) significantly outweigh the risks, so that played a role in being going back on it. My dose of Seroquel was lowered a lot though to meet myself in the middle. It's as low as I can possibly go without being thrown so easily into a horrible episode (I need at least 300-400 mg), but that is much better than when I was on 800 mg.

Well, my thinking is that it's so important for me to get sleep (and it's always been so hard even when I was little) that I justify the Seroquel without even trying to drop it.

Up the Gabapentin - and add Melatonin. Safe strategies that cannot hurt. I assume you went off Seroquel in favor of Abilify?

I took 30mg of temazepam and 2mg of klonopin along with the doxepin and I slept 7 hours.
