Do you have to have this to be BP? There are so many criteria for BP I can't keep up. I've always had racing thoughts or slow thoughts and have poverty of speech or have had trouble speaking since a teen. BTW, lithium doesn't do anything for me I believe. I've had side effects to all the other mood stabilizers. I don't get manic but I can feel speeded up.

No, I don’t think that ‘disorganized thoughts’ is a criteria for bipolar disorder.

Has someone told you that you (may) have the disorder?

The only criteria I know is to experience extreme highs and extreme lows. And I mean extreme.

Yes, I was told I was BPII with agitated depression, a form of BP from an experienced PDOC.

I don't think it's a symptom--it's more a consequence of the disorder and/or the meds.

I have heard I had this symptom was when I had my first manic event set off by phen fen (antidepressant plus speed, essentially).

I remember being frustrated opening files on my desk and being unable to concentrate enough to do any work.

I felt that I was making logical jumps from one topic to another while talking to the psychiatrist my employer sent me to. He did not. He felt that I was delivering disorganized speech, rapid fire. He said I wasn’t making sense and he couldn’t follow it.

Another psychiatrist saw me in my only other full manic event—he later told me I had pressure of speech during the mania.

I am not like this otherwise. I would not be able to hold down my job. I have to write and communicate policy.
Thanks for this!
