Of course I overworked myself in the midst of moving homes and separating from my partner, and now I find myself physically ill and trying to recover from a near breakdown. I know I need self-care, but I'm not good at that. And work is breathing down my neck. I am out for a one week medical leave for stomach issues, probably an ulcer. I have let myself get so burned out and run down. How can I use this week to heal. I need some ideas. (Although I will still need to do work from home this week...) Really--how does anyone with this condition hold down a life and a job. I can barely do it. I'm hanging on by a thread, and this week off doesn't help the situation with my bosses being frustrated with me. (They even know of my condition but still expect me to be 100% because when I came back from a major episode and two years out of work, they said, "Well, we expect you to be fully functioning now and healthy enough to do your full list of responsibilities"— They even refused a reasonable accommodation!)
Anyway. Work/Life/Recovery...Thoughts?

I can relate I pushed myself til I’d crash many times and many times I got burned out but thinking about my kids kept me going as they were young . I need to exercise, eat right, and watch my sleep patterns better but I’d say don’t beat your self up. Every fall I crash get depressed and every spring I make up for it . That is until my health got severe then I tried a sun light box and in the 8 moths using it I was able to stop taking antidepressants as my dr took me off. I had been taking them for 25 years and now do not need them I get way less depressed and have more energy. Talk to your Dr. it could help.

Is there any process you can pursue to force them to enact reasonable accommodations?

Isn’t there a law for this and employers?? It might depend on your state. It can be a form of disability thing...

I'm so sorry you are struggling with this.

There is no easy answer.

The basics: Give attention to HGD (hygiene, grooming, dress)
Eat at least 3-4 small meals a day, as healthy as possible
Do not isolate inside
Exercise some daily or be in nature
Talk to your supports daily, whoever they are
Use this board as one of your supports

Make an hourly schedule so you don't have to think about what's next. Do this on paper or an excel spreadsheet. Put in time for work, and the other things. During each time block, that's your sole focus. Spend a few minutes deep breathing or meditating in between your blocks. Clear out what you just did, and open yourself for what is in the next block. And repeat.

You mentioned they are giving you **** about accomodations. Are you on FMLA? Is there an employee health department seperate from HR? You mentioned you are able to do some of your work from home. Does this help? Can you have that be part of your normal workweek, to be at home X hours per day/week?

Are you in cognitive behavioral therapy?

Consider theurapeutic massage, which can include accupressure/puncture, cranio sacral therapy, reflexology, reiki, and other energy therapies.

I'm so sorry you are struggling, this sounds very hard. You are not alone, and do not give up hope. If it is necessary, it is OK to file a disability claim, be it short or long term, and/or social security. There is no shame in that.

I'm over-simplifying things, tremendously. But I hope it might help a little. Keep us posted a time or two each day. Be kind and loving towards yourself,

You've got a lot going on at once. No wonder you're burned out.

Hope you get some rest and do some fun activities on your time off.
