I've been on it for 10 days and it makes me happier and pain free, but I'm hypo and doing things I normally wouldn't have done. I'm more moody and selfish (with regret) and really pushing my self like when I was on oxycodone. But the acne breakout on my back is shocking for a little over a week. I can't concentrate and I'm starting to get paranoid and I fear they will cut me off and I'll be contemplating exit strategies..
Has anyone tried this stuff? I can't find more than a few articles outlining my complications. Man, I can't even remember what I wanted to ask |

I became very much unable to focus on anything and didn't care on tramadol. I also loved the feelings it gave me, which weren't euphoric but were more of "eh, effit. Whatever it is." Nothing bothered me, at all. I drove large distances without knowing what I was doing or having any idea of where, when I was supposed to be working at the time. It's probably best I didn't go to work, construction. I also ate my second month's supply in about a week. That's one pain med I loved but they should never give me again.
I remember the last one I took, I was swallowing it while shifting gears and holding a partial bottle of whiskey. I was so dangerous on that one. I didn't think anything was a problem. |

I am bipolar and take 200 mg of Tramadol a day for pain. Other than cutting down on pain, I haven't noticed any other effects. Could your increased activity be caused by your feeling less pain? I don't know about acne. But then I'm in my 60's and haven't had acne in many, many years.

It's almost 24 hours since I've missed two doses. But I don't know what to do. I don't want to wait too long before deciding to stop...going through oxycodone withdrawals was hell.
I don't know, I feel like I'm foggy and I was already reading how to abuse them.. By the time you're reading this, I've probably gave in and popped a couple. Damn, I don't know what I'll do if I miss my dentist appointment tomorrow. The doctors that recommend Tramadol, said I could have a normal life on it without a need for a liver transplant and avoid eating and drinking the things we live for... yeah, a life of misery NOT including any new medication I have to test out when I see my new psychiatrist for my primary concern. |

I have never taken it but a friend did. They said it always made them feel "loopy" and they often made impulse decisions (for instance, they decided to drive to new mexico but halfway there decided to come back after calling me). Of course those decisions could just be bipolar and not related to tramadol.

Thank you all for the quick replies. I will be taking notes tomorrow from here, to talk to my doctors about what's happening. I just don't want to go and seem 'unprepared'.
Please ignore my behavior later on |

Tramadol made my heart race so I could not take it. I know plenty of people that became manic on it though. It is an anti depressant.

Tramadol is an opiate.

It is, but it’s also used as an antidepressant

It does not mix with bipolar. There are anti-depressant-esque properties in it. SNRI.
It is highly likely to cause manic spectrum issues and/or cycling problems with more than short-term use, of, say, 10 days tops. Should really monitor it closely at half of that. is OK to take short-term for acute pain, but lowest possible theurepeutic dose. That dose, is likely to be half of what a PCP might prescribe. I would say 25-50mg BID. When it's time to stop it, do a taper, don't just stop. If it has made you manicky, use small doses of AP and/or benzo to smooth out the process. If it's needed for acute pain, and sometimes is, take it with 1 gram of tylenol brand rapid release acetimenophen to reduce the effective dose level. Hope that helps If someone prescribed this 'for bipolar' related to SNRI properties, run far away. All IMHO and based on experience and knowledge from taking it for an injury. I don’t know much about tramadol. But from what you are saying about how you are abusing it .....you are treading in extremely dangerous territory. Maybe even headed for a cliff. Please be careful and talk to your doctor ASAP!

It is one that works the seratonin. So It can give you the high happy feeling. I read ana rticle about. I was on it once and noticed that when I went off of it, I took a dive into depression. It can work in almost the same way as an anti-depressant

Here I go. Stopping today but I don't think tapering off is necessary for 10. Days, but Lyrica will help.
I've written so many notes and I don't know where to start. This is so embarrassing.. ![]() |

I was given it for low back pain but I never took it because I was already sedated with psych meds. Sounds like I did the right thing.

I took it for about 8 months when I was in severe daily pain and everyone was trying find out what was causing my pain. When they threw there hands up and just labeled me Fibromyalgia.
I was not diagnosed Bipolar at the time . Honestly it didn’t help anything. I quit cold turkey and just felt a tad nauseous for about a day then I was fine But I have no addiction issues. Make sure you really push fluids getting off them if you can manage it. Loads of water help flush the med out of your system.
