I have read that bipolar and addiction often go together.
I’ve been eating too much and spending an extreme amount of time on the Internet. I’m trying naltrexone to see if it helps. I think it helped a little...but it might be why I didn’t sleep well this week. I didn’t take it yesterday and slept all night and half of today (I got up early to do yard work and went back to sleep!). Insomnia is risky in bipolarland. I’m on 50 mg, then cut to 25 mg. Is insomnia the naltrexone? I’m just not sure since my cats woke me up a lot. |

Oh my goodness...
I've been eyeballing this med. I recently saw an add for a drug called Contrave that is a combination of naltrexone and bupropion for weight loss. It is apparently the most popular weight loss drug at the moment (or so I read). I happen to be on bupropion already, so I am on one half of this weight loss combo. I did read that insomnia is one of the side effects. The good news is many side effects lessen or go away in time, so speaking for myself, I can endure side effects if I know they are short term as my body adjusts to a new med. I have fifty pounds to lose, and they just seem to be stuck on me. I would love to know if it helps you lose weight. I was an extremely heavy user of pot, but have managed to be clean for about 12 weeks now. There is however no mention of naltrexone being useful for keeping you away from weed. My partner still uses, so there is pot in the house that I will have to keep my fingers away from. It would be nice to know it would help me in that department also just in case I ever weaken. We grew three six foot plants last year, so it was (and still is) very plentiful in our house. Not growing plants ever again. That much pot is ridiculous for someone prone to abusing the stuff, and I learned that the hard way. |

Oh, right—I had read about contrave, and my doc mentioned it, but I’m not allowed to have antidepressants.
I’ve been on Wellbutrin in the past before I knew I was bipolar. It made me nervous. My adult daughter liked it for a while—she lost 50 pounds. Then she felt the nervousness was coming from the pills (she though it was her college load) so she quit taking it and gained the weight back. Thank you for your response. I guess the insomnia is from the pills. I just read some reviews on drugs.com and I didn’t even think some other problems were the pills—I’ve been getting hot flashes and upset stomach too. Hmm |

How long have you been taking it? Maybe your body needs time to adjust?

Just one week. I need to catch up on sleep this weekend. I might try slicing the pills into quarters and try again.
